Other: It’s clear that Building and Trades park is not a priority as renovations have paused but it would be great if there was more attention paid to it. The playgrounds are routinely flanked by people gambling, smoking, using drugs, and unleashed dogs. MSI Security comes through and does nothing more than scan a QR code. The playgrounds are rarely used by children anymore. Just because Hopewell can’t get its act together doesn’t mean that the park should be left to rot. There are citizens and families in this neighborhood that deserve better instead of waiting for tenants in a. neighborhood that doesn’t exist. How about resurfacing the basketball courts? How about taking notice of the positive ways the park gets used and supporting those, instead of updating a single pavilion that most people are scared to use?

Thanks for the report. We value Building Trades Park, which is why we recently master planned for its future and invested around $450,000 in Phase I improvements. One of our priority investment recommendations is in fact rehabilitating and improving the sports court into a multi-use games area. We anticipate more future use of this park as new neighborhoods develop and will continue to pass along some of the more immediate security concerns to BPD. They have bolstered patrols to the park in recent months. I'm passing along this report to the Deputy Mayor as well for visibility only.
