Mr. Prosser is a bicyclist. In October he sent Jim Sherman a letter inspired by the recent BPD brochure on bicycles. He notes that BMC 15.56.020, which prohibits bicycles with a wheel radius of over 14" from riding on the sidewalk, in effect allows all bicycles to be ridden on the sidewalk. He suggests that the code be amended to read "diameter." He also suggests that, in the future, the brochure correctly use "wheelbase." Please refer to B&PSC and the Traffic Commission. Thank You.

2/17/97 I put this on the agenda for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission to make a recommendation on before taking it to council. 4/7/97 The Bike and Ped. Comm. finally discussed the issue and gave me the "go ahead" to approach City Council about changing our code to reflect 14" diameter rather than 14" radius. I will present the ordinance to City Council on May 21st and the final vote will be on June 4th.
