Property owner dug a huge pit in the front yard and then just partially covered it with thin plywood leaving a portion of the pit exposed and a large, unsightly pile of dirt next to it. People or animals could easily fall into the pit and be trapped or hurt. Please ask owner to stop dragging down the neighborhood and finish any jobs he starts so that others are not put in danger.

While living at Terra Trace (321 E. 14th St) from 2020-2022 there were a lot of problems but one that should absolutely not be dismissed. I am disappointed that no one seems to realize the seriousness of this. On Aug 17, 2021, my neighbors set their stove on fire. Once I noticed the smoke smell, I went to the hallway to see what was going on and my neighbor explained what happened. They didn't know what to do so I pulled the fire alarm and it did not go off. I had to alert everyone by knocking on their doors to let them know the building wasn't safe and we needed to get out. I was told my claim was false and inaccurate. After some minor internet searches, I found that there was a fire here in 2011 (if I remember correctly) that killed a student. After finding this out, I knew I had to do more. I feel as if this apartment complex needs to be reevaluated for safety of the residents still living there. I will also be willing to provide more information, videos, etc about this incident. The porch on this house is MISSING! Meaning, there are no floor boards. Anyone stepping onto the porch at night in the dark (human or animal) will fall into an abyss. This building should be repaired or removed - it is dangerous.
Not sure what is going on at the empty lot at 416 E cottage Grove but is seems to have become a dumping grounds for old building material including a pile of old wood with nails in it. No building permit is visible at the site.
The security fence set up to hinder people from crossing RR property at Dunn has been cut through and people are now walking across, even when the train is coming. This necessitates the train conductors to blow their horns loudly to clear the tracks at this location when they pass by (at all hours). When "The Standard" is full of 1000+ entitled undergraduates, they will likely all use this passage to make their lives easier. Who is actually responsible for maintaining the wall/fencing that blocks illegal and dangerous crossing of the tracks stretching from Walnut to Indiana Avenues? It was not so bad when Brownstone was still there, but since the beginning of the "Standard" construction project (that has been going on sporadically for two years now), the barrier has slowly degraded. Is this a matter for the police or the "Standard" property owners or the City or the adjacent property owners? We fear that there will be a high rate of late-night, drunken crossings coupled with the likely concomitant periodic deaths if something is not done about this. Does Bloomington rally want to continue to be known for a place that allows (encourages) dangerous and unhealthy behavior? It's bad enough that scooters are allowed (how many deaths have they caused so far?) - does the City now want there to be regular RR accidents that result in beheadings, or worse?
The Avenue refuses to fix their fire alarms. It is a massive public safety issue as nobody believes the alarms are valid. People stay inside after the alarms go off
There is a window by the grass and the parking lot (on right side of building near the dumpsters/ally). There is tons of glass that is a hazard to my dog and others in the community who use this area to let their dogs go to the bathroom (there are at least 5 I know that use this space). The glass is very dangerous and has been ignored. There is also tons of trash in this grass left by workers fixing this building.
The rear retaining wall of 705 w 13th Street is a hazard as it is soon to fall like the other piece of retaining wall that fell off. Please address this hazard that is seen every day by us dog walkers using the public ROW in the alley. That large piece of limestone could fall any second and land on something or someone and it is unfair that property owners are not held accountable for maintaining their property. This rental property was inspected recently, and even with hazardous sidewalks on property as well as hazardous retaining walls, it was approved as safe for being a rental. Nope. It is not safe.
I don't know if this is the right category for this. Nevertheless, the people at 777 North Oolitic Dr are building on to the back of their house and I don't think they have a permit for it. We already have wondered if there was a permit to build the house. Now this room is being built by the Dad of the family and no permit is posted. Please check into this asap. The new construction is behind the house and the address is 777 N. Oolitic Dr, not 801. Your GPS won't let me tag it.
