Original report via email. "To whom this may concern I live in Smallwood Plaza and I have noticed a regular issue and accident waiting to happen in regards to the parking garage on Morton St. When cars are parked behind smallwood, they make it difficult to see oncoming cars both drivers and cyclists leaving smallwoods parking garage. A solution I've thought of is installing a convex mirror to extend line of sight. Thank you for taking the time to read my email. Sincerely, Cody Rosenberg"
This intersection is BLIND to travelers on Grant Street. The building on the NE corner abuts the sidewalk (who allowed this to be built there???), preventing a south-bound driver from seeing cars traveling west on 9th Street, and it's almost as bad for travelers heading north. If the building at 401 E. 9th is allowed to remain standing, there should be at least a stop sign on 9th Street, since it is so difficult to see oncoming traffic.
Because this house is so close to the sidewalk, it is nearly impossible to see the E->W cross traffic on 9th Street when one is traveling south on Grant. An easy way to address this is to ask the owner to trim or remove the shrubs that are on the south side of the building. Of course, a better remedy would be to install a stop sign on 9th Street at this intersection, making it an 3-way (= All-way) stop.
Does the City have jurisdiction over IU? The bricks on the bricks around the Sample Gates are so shiny that in the glare creates a hazard when traveling east (on bicycle) east into campus and also in the afternoons when traveling west. Last evening I crashed head-on into another bicyclist because I couldn't see him approaching. I have mentioned this to the Landscape Architect, but was told there is nothing that can be done to lessen the glare. Is that true?
