there's a dangerous situation out on west 3rd street, near the intersection of 3rd & franklin. a very deep hole right beside a public sidewalk & i'm afraid that someone won't see it who is walking along & the person could get very injured. the hole is about 18" wide and about 5 feet deep and difficult to see until it's too late. it is in front of a "for sale" building, but right beside the public sidewalk there.
I hope I am reporting this to the same place that I did earlier (see below) The City of Bloomington website is a bit Byzantine in nature I live at 1300 East Maxwell Lane on the SE corner of E. Maxwell Lane and Highland Avenue. Several weeks ago I contacted you about a hole in the pavement that runs in front of out house. It is situated in an offset parking area that looks to be on the easement along the front of our house. The hole is about 8 inches across and several inches deep. Below the surface of the pavement you can see the top of a pipe which extends north towards an open drainage area at the intersection of East Maxwell Lane and Highland. It would seem to continue to the south down Highland. You can see the edge of the pipe, which is open, where the hole in the pavement has formed and it looks as though water must have been draining out at this point causing the surrounding material around it to erode which allowed the pavement above it to collapse. Several days after I contacted you someone from the city did come out and look at it but said that he was not sure as to whether it was the city’s responsibility to correct the problem or ours as the homeowners. He said he would need to research the situation to see exactly what might be involved in the problem and who should take care of the repair. However we have not heard anything from the city concerning this and we would like to have it corrected before winter sets in with more rain and snow runoff creating more of a problem, which I feel sure will ultimately affect not only our lot but also the street adjacent to it. A few days after that person was here I did see a city car pulled up alongside Maxwell Lane for a few minutes but no one got out or came to the door to inquire but it could have been someone else from the city coming to assess the situation. They may have been thinking that the problem was on that side of the house since we do have a Maxwell Lane address but the house faces Highland and the problem is on that side. I don’t know, this is just a guess. Could someone there please check to see what is happening with this problem?

Pothole on Heritage (off E 3rd St) close to house #116. Heritage is dark at night, and therefore can be dangerous for the pedestrian. Also, huge overgrowth of foliage on sidewalk in front of 3813 E 3rd St. Obstructs the sidewalk. I noticed that when I get off the bus on E 3rd, in front of Century's building, the sidewalk ends rather than helps the pedestrian reach the corner of Smith Rd so that I can cross to get to E Morningside Dr. This is unacceptable for the pedestrian.
this is a correction for the pothole I reported last week. It is not in front of 1707 E Second, but 1807. Right now it is covered by snow, but it will re-appear soon enough. Thanks.
Hi: I am just wondering who is responsible for street/landscape maintenance along certain streets in the city and county that I travel often. Along Smith Rd., just north of Hillside, there was a lot of brush that has been cut down but nothing else and an ugly partial fence is still standing. The new roundabout at Sare Rd. and Rogers….who is responsible for maintaining the landscaping that was installed. It is a bunch of weeds right now. Along south Highland, just north of Rogers, there is a curve that is alway full of potholes and the street and sidewalk are a mess. On Sare Rd., at the entrance to Hyde Park, who is responsible for a mess of grass clippings that is always left after the grass is allowed to grow very, very long. It is still there. Stormwater runoff into detention area on E. Brightcrest on east side of S. Smith Road is slow to drain due to vegetation blockage of storm sewer. During heavy rain it results in water flowing over sidewalk and into the street. It also is flooding spruce trees and thus may be detrimental to their health if the condition continues into somewhat warmer weather.
Greetings, I am unsure if this is a city issue, but hope that you can point me in the right direction. In the area between our sidewalk and the road there are two tree stumps. I was taking my wife to work at the hospital Monday morning. We pulled on to Rogers Street from Rockport at approximately 0656. One large, orange Young Trucking truck had already passed us on Rogers. We were approximately 50 yards south of the electric substation, driving north when something flew off the next orange Young Trucking dump truck as it was moving south on Rogers. We were surprised by the fist-sized impact and then swung around to pull into the Young Trucking , IMI facility off of Rogers (1602 S Roger St). We pulled right next to Young Trucking truck #9. This truck turned left, north on Rogers and then west on Patterson. I called the Young Trucking Company (812-332-0403) at 0659. The gentleman asked me which truck, I couldn’t tell that since it was moving in the opposite direction, but I did know what the number of the truck immediately behind it was #9. Assuming they keep track of which trucks get loaded with what, they know which truck was loaded immediately before #9. Young Trucking's position is that it must have been something in the roadway. Could someone please clean up any large, broken rocks and concrete on the street or sidewalk in front of the electrical substation, and entrance to 1602 S Roger Street?
