I am writing to bring your attention to a serious safety concern at the entrance of the Winslow Sports Park in Bloomington, Indiana, specifically the lack of a sidewalk and clear crosswalk on Highland Avenue. As a concerned resident and frequent park user, I would like to request immediate action to address this issue to prevent potential accidents and injuries. On [date], I had two close encounters where I almost got hit by cars speeding into the park and not paying attention to pedestrians. This alarming situation made me realize the imminent danger that exists for both pedestrians and drivers. Given that the park is designed to promote pedestrian activity, it is essential to create a safe and accessible environment for all users, especially considering the large neighborhood across the street. I kindly request the following actions to be taken as soon as possible: 1. Construction of a Sidewalk: I urge you to install a sidewalk along Highland Avenue leading up to the entrance of Winslow Sports Park. This would provide a designated path for pedestrians and separate them from vehicular traffic, ensuring their safety. 2. Installation of a Clear Crosswalk: It is imperative to establish a clearly marked crosswalk at the park entrance, complete with visible signage and pedestrian indicators. This would serve as a visual cue for drivers to yield to pedestrians and encourage safer crossing. By addressing these concerns promptly, we can prevent any potential accidents and injuries that may arise from the current hazardous situation. Moreover, enhancing the accessibility and safety of the park would further encourage pedestrian engagement and contribute to the overall well-being of our community. In the past we have put in a complaint about the trees at mills pool. They need cut back. They hang way to low. Someone is going to put an eye out. Oh wait my son almost did. On July 15th my 12 year old son was walking on the sidewalk at the circle to go swimming. He turned his head and jammed a hanging tree branch into his left eye. His poor eye was red and draining and it hurt. We went to the dr the next day. He got some eye drops and they sent us to the eye dr. Had to wait till that wed. Unfortunately he can not swim for atleast a week. We have to get the open wound on his eye ball to heal up. I hope you take immediate action on this and keep on top of it from now on. This never should have happened. Those trees should never hang that low especially since we have put in a complaint on them before. Here is pictures of his poor little eye and the trees. Thank you in advance for taking care of this immediately before some one really .gets hurt

To Whom It May Concern! I wanted to say thank you to the Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department for trimming the low hanging branches on the two very large Oak trees near the entrance to Mills Pool off of Blair Ave. They not only look amazing, but its so much easier to access the park area under and around the trees when walking my dog. I know its much easier for the pool customers to use the sidewalk as well as get to their cars when parked along the curb on the exit of the main parking area. So, thank you. I'm asking and suggesting that the same tree limb pruning be done on the four very large Oak trees on the south end of the park area on the corner of Blair and Dyer. I, as a homeowner on Blair Ave. along with other residents use this area to walk our dogs and other outdoor activities. These branches are a hindrance to not only our enjoyment of the area, but to the city employee's who mow the park area. I've watched them navigate the low hanging branches so they don't get hit in the face and have to bend all the way over so their head is near their feet on the mower pedals just to mow the area. This seems very dangerous for them and I'm concerned for their safety as well as the overall ease of use for the area. Would you please consider pruning those limbs up just as you had done on the two trees to the north of the property. If you can do this and possibly while your at it, there is a very large yew right in front of the pool that had 3/4 of it removed last year. It's now a 1/4 of a living yew with nothing but weeds growing around it because it can't be mowed. This seems not only unsightly to the overall ambiance of the area, but really just dosen't look that good making the approach to Mills Pool rather uninviting. I did leave a voicemail with the Natural Resources Coordinator regarding this issue and had not heard anything. It's possible a plan is in place and I mention this so you can coordinate with that department. Once again, thank you for taking care of the two trees on the north end. There is a huge grassy plot of land next to Sherwood Oaks Park that has gone seemingly unused for years. It would be great if this expanse of land could be used to create a dog park. There are many dog owners in the Bloomington community that frequent Sherwood Oaks Park, and adding a simple dog park there would give this unused plot of land some purpose and revitalize the park as a whole. This grassy expanse is located alongside the Jackson Creek Trail, a long sidewalk that many dog owners use, myself included. Having the dog park located here would be highly accessible, useful, and convenient. As you may already know, there is already a dog park in Bloomington called Ferguson Dog Park; however, it is in a secluded location and quite far off from local neighborhoods. Commuting there and back is a hassle, and I'm sure many other Bloomington dog owners would agree. This proposed dog park wouldn't have to be fancy. I suggest 2-3 separate fenced-in areas (each area suits different dog sizes/mannerisms) as well as a shaded picnic/sitting area. A dog wash station would be ideal, but not necessary. These suggestions are based off of the design of Ferguson Dog Park, so Ferguson can definitely be consulted for ideas during the creation of this proposed Sherwood Oaks dog park. In the picture above, the dotted lines represent a rough idea for the fencing that would separate the dog park into the 3 areas.

Drainage from the football field covers the path from Olcott Park to JCMS with water (even after days with no rain). The water turns to ice when the temperature drops. Dozens of school children and community members use the path daily. I’ve seen school children slip and fall hard on their way to school. In past years the path is not adequately able to be maintained to remove the ice...the ice gets so thick that a general maintenance crew would not be able to remove it once it has formed. This path is often skipped by snow removal efforts (not sure if it’s City or MCCSC). Please consider a way to redirect this flow before someone gets seriously hurt. Thank you.
