I’m a frequent user of Switchyard park, but I’m very unhappy with the state of the parking lot on Walnut St. I’ve seen city employees out working in the area several times, but it’s still unsightly. The beds are sparse and bare-looking. It appears as though the working crew has mulched around Johnson grass - an invasive grass - and tall fescue. Does the landscaper not know the difference between invasive and ornamental grasses? Not only this, the hills south of the stage area around the playground and dog park are filled with thistles, Johnson grass, and other invasives. Is the city’s flagship park not worth landscaping maintenance? Considering that this is the city’s most beloved, brag-worthy park and it still looks awful, I’m hesitant to visit other parks.

This is a loosestrife. It is highly invasive and I found it growing between the parking lot and the small stream that flows into Jackson Creek, which means that it can spread downstream along the creek.

I am sensitive to the needs of the unhoused and the city needs to be doing much more to protect them and provide them safe living spaces, but it is frustrating to me that I cannot walk my dog in any of the parks near me (Bryan park, switchyard) without feeling unsafe because of homeless people yelling at and following me. Bryan park used to be a safe park.

There are two very large and deep muddy puddles in the large dog park area at Switchyard. One is located by the large tree in the center of the park, and the other is located by the sitting area under the green awning. My dog recently got into the muddy water, ate and drank it, and became severely sick for several days. After speaking with several dog owners at the park, this has happened with their dogs too, so it is definitely a health hazard. It is very difficult to keep the dogs away from these areas. This does not seem to be a problem just after rainfall, but most of the time. I ask that they be filled with gravel or fenced off to allow for regrowth and to keep dogs away in the meantime. Thank you!

My house shares a tree line with Southeast Park on Montclair Ave. During two storms this summer, trees on the park side have split and left large branches on the park side. These trees break due to the number of times they have been cut back by the utility companies (close to power lines that also border my property and the park) on my side of the tree line. Because of the location of the power lines and where the dead tree branches current lay, I do not know who's responsibility it is to clean up these dead limbs. I would like to request that the city take care of it, as we have had no control over the care of these trees and how they have been topped on only one side over and over again throughout the years. Thank you for your consideration and attention to this.
