Mrs. Leiter feels that every time *(pls. inquire w/ her for details) she's dealt with our Animal Shelter, the people assisting her have been unwilling and uncooperative. Her experience so far has been so negative that she went to Martinsville to adopt a pet instead of coming to our A.S. She noted that she's live in many different towns, and has never run into an A.S. that seems so unhelpful and uninterested in her needs/concerns. **(JIM-I told her you'd be appropriate person to deal w/)

Mrs. Schlegel called to express concern over the scheduling of the BT Access. She apparently has had repeated problems with the BT Access coming late, and says that when she called into the office, the personnel in the office were rude to her by telling her she should call a taxi if she wanted to be picked up faster. Also, she apparently got the idea the staff in the office were telling her that using her disabilities do not warrant riding the BT Access. She commended the drivers however.

FYI--Mr. Rogers called to complain about several officers actions during an incident in which he was assaulted. He filed an internal complaint form w/ BPD & has not heard back. He is "disgusted" w/ the way BPD has handled this case & wants to speak to the Mayor. I told him that he shld allow for all the steps in the complaint process to run their course. Mr. Rogers said he wld contact Brd Public Safety, but expected to receive a phone call from the Mayor. He stated he wld call Channel 6.

Mr. Bell called very upset saying basically that on a 1998 December evening, after having an argument with someone, was arrested by a blonde-haired officer working the night shift (he named either Officer Kellams or Helms). Apparently, the person with whom he was having the argument called the police, who then detained him with handcuffs and started "beating/assaulting him."
Mr. Bell had several other issues he was struggling to resolve, and has an apparent court date on 1/ 22.

Thank you for the awesome community fireworks display downtown! It brought neighbors out onto our porches and sidewalks to witness the display over our Near Westside neighborhood.
I love the idea of continuing the fireworks display downtown in future years. It makes it so much more of a community event instead of something that happens on the outskirts of town. Chapeau to those who came up with the idea.

Re: Case #165561
Some debris from the accident remains near the RR underpass.
Trash and weeds are still on Adams, and on Fountain, and on 8th Streets. Streets near the university at least get swept.
Can the City seal the streets, so the weeds won't grow?
