Traffic Suggestions

1206 S Woodlawn AVE

Case Date:
10/16/2021

There is a very dangerous vehicular traffic pattern on S Woodlawn Ave between Sheridan Dr and E Hillside Dr, especially near the Grimes & Woodlawn and Weatherstone & Woodlawn intersections. There is a blind hill on Woodlawn that greatly decreases visibility for everyone. North @ south-bound vehicles on Woodlawn regularly break the speed limit by 20+ MPH and have even seen estimated speeds of 70+ mph. Sometimes vehicles "floor it" on Woodlawn southbound from Sheridan Ln stop sign. The city should consider installing a STOP sign on Woodlawn @ Grimes intersection to decrease the speed of North & South-bound traffic on Woodlawn Ave. The city should also consider additional signage to protect pedestrians who are crossing from Weatherstone Ln to Bryan Park. I have almost been hit there several times by speeding cars and trucks. This is a primary route for cyclists, pedestrians, commuting students, and dog-walkers. Pedestrians and cyclists crossing Woodlawn anywhere between Hillside and Sheridan Ave risk injury and death by vehicles speeding up and down the blind hill. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Greetings. We need moving violation enforcement and an increase in people who can do traffic law enforcement. Can someone in BPD as well as OOTM please read this article and consider how the City of Bloomington may work to make their streets actually safe and civil... Please take note of the quote about their goal. I think Bloomington needs to make the goal of public safety a top and most important priority! This is what the city of New Orleans is doing to help their police department with their staff shortages. 'They will have duties such as monitoring phone and online reports, issuing traffic citations, surveying major events like Mardi Gras and the Essence Festival and even doing some investigative work. Civilians would additionally be dispatched to calls that may not require an officer, such as collecting preliminary evidence, securing loose pets and responding to forgery, certain medical episodes and some thefts, New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said last Thursday. 'The goal of all of this is to make our officers feel safe so that they can make our citizens and visitors feel safe,' Ferguson said. 'This is also to reduce some of the workload currently placed on our patrol and district personnel. But more importantly this is designed to reduce response time and address the backlogs in which we have in some of our districts.'" E State Rd 46 Bypass & E 10th St, Bloomington, IN 47408, USA

Case Date:

At this and other intersections along the bypass, there is not sufficient signage for cyclists and pedestrians using the sidepath. The "walk" sign only turns on when you press the button, instead of automatically turning on with the green light. And because of the insufficient signage, drivers seem unaware that there is a side path, and frequently block bike/pedestrian traffic and make dangerous turns into people entering the crosswalks.

Four way stop at E. Longview and N. Glenwood West. Issue: vehicles fail to fully stop at stop signs. Hazard and safety concern for pedestrians and park users in this four-way stop location. Request: Mark stripes at each stop sign where vehicles are to fully stop. This to cause some attention to this stop sign issue where folks roll through and sometimes do not stop this causing danger for park users in the "hill area" chasing a ball and small children. Just requesting four bold stripes to delineate the stop sign marking on the street to emphasize the requirement to stop. Please reply so I know that you have received this request. Thank you on behalf of me and Park Ridge neighbors.

I am requesting that a speed bump and a flashing speed indicator be installed in a location along W Woodlawn Ave, somewhere between S Weatherstone Ln and E Wilson St. The speed limit on S Woodlawn Ave is 25 MPH, but the average vehicle's speed in front of my approximate address is closer to 45 MPH, with many vehicles regularly reaching speeds over 60 MPH and even 80 MPH at least daily. The reason why the speed limit is 25 MPH on S Woodlawn Ave is because of its proximity to Indiana University foot and bike commuters, Bryan Park, the Bryan Park Pool, a bus stop, and Union Elementary School. In addition to these elements, S Woodlawn Ave is also hilly which contributes to dangers associated with limited lines of sight between vehicles and pedestrians. Being a thoroughfare between Hillside Ave and streets north of it, traffic naturally flows faster than 25 MPH especially with the only stop sign between 1st St and Hillside Ave being at Sheridan Ave. Drivers frequently “floor” their vehicles through S Woodlawn Ave, and the police speed enforcement seems to never pull anyone over for speeding. For the above reasons, the current traffic pattern on S Woodlawn Ave is incompatible with its intended use. Installing a speed bump and a flashing speed indicator (for both northbound and southbound traffic) will hopefully greatly reduce thoroughfare excessive speeds. I am worried that this is a formula for someone to get hurt and it is only a matter of time unless the City does something about this. Please at least conduct a traffic study. Thank you for receiving my note, and I will be following up on this.

115 E Sunny Slopes DR

Case Date:
10/13/2022

Hello, I've been talking to several residents of Sunny Slopes who have children who play outside. We have been having many issues with cars speeding down this road, and around the curves. We believe it would be very beneficial to get a few speed bumps through this area, and would be grateful if you'd take this into consideration. Thank you.

Request for traffic barrier to be placed on Robinson Rd. There is a very steep valley directly off the road which is slightly curved. I fear for safety in the winter as a fall would result in fatality. If it is a possibility please call or email for a specific location. Thanks

1209 S Palmer AVE

Case Date:
9/26/2022

I have lived on this street (S Palmer Avenue between Hillside and Grimes) for going on nine years now, and myself and my neighbors are concerned with the speed many non-residential drivers use on this span of Palmer. The majority of drivers maintain a speed far too fast down our street. This is especially troubling because half of our street has not sidewalks and many Bryan Park residents use the street as a walking path. I would like to request either a speed-monitoring study or the installation of traffic-slowing measures on this stretch of Palmer.

City needs to install a delineator along the dedicated bike lane that spans 3rd street between Emerson Ave & Indiana Ave. An extremely unsafe traffic pattern is forming where motorists are unsafely pulling into the bike lane hundreds of time a week, constantly causing near-misses and even some small accidents. This is a really bad accident waiting to happen.

S Highland Ave & E 3rd St, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA

It is very difficult to see the westbound traffic when stopped on Highland going north and trying to turn onto 3rd street. The TIS building obstructs the view.
