1-21 East Dillman Road

Case Date:
10/13/2017

For over 17 years we have lived close to the corner of Dillman and S. Old 37. As I type yet another traffic accident is being cleaned up at this intersection. It is time to have a 4 way stop put in. No more rumble strips, or intersection signs or yellow blinking lights, or cutting back the tree/brush line. (well, that does need to happen:-) This has got to be one of the most dangerous intersections in town. People coming off of 37 drive down old 37 like they are still on the highway. With the amount of houses, buses and children that are living in the area I would have thought that something would have been done by now to fix this problem, which is a serious safety issue to anyone trying to cross the road. The solution of a four way makes since and would not hurt the pocket book of Bloomington. If it is an inconvenience for people to stop then so be it. This has gone on for far too long and all attempts to do something, in the form of rumble strips, intersection signs, yellow blinking lights etc., by the city/county have just been band aids not real solutions. Please take my request seriously. Many of us living on the south side have children who are reaching the age where they will be on the roads as young drivers. As an adult with over 20 years of driving experience, I dread approaching this intersection or even pulling out of my own driveway near this intersection. Its a death trap and a game of chance. Thanks so much for your time. Regards, Nelson Cano

At 1st and Rogers the lines at the stops are gone. Dr. Timothy Hodges has almost been hit and he would like to have lines on the road so cars know where to stop.

west 3rd Ave. I total understand that road construction needs to be completed and delays can be expected. However, the traffic pattern on west 3rd over 37 is unacceptable. I live of Johnson Drive (a few blocks east of the intersection) and I can't even get home without be blocked by traffic for 25 to 30 minutes. The construction company seems to have enough paved space now to keep 2 east/west bound lanes open and keep the traffic flow going. They need to re strip the lanes and/or have police direct traffic. There are only 2 fully operational overpasses on 37 which would be fullerton way south or 46 up north squeezing all the traffic on to 2nd/3rd which are both restricted in lanes. As I said, delays can be expected with construction but the times are unacceptable.

IUPD has contacted the Facility Operations Control Center for the Bloomington Campus about stopping several vehicles going the wrong way on a one way street. The intersection that is causing the problem is 8th & Indiana, IUPD would like the area better marked with a Do Not Enter sign or better placement of current signs.

I work at the school of Business and travel south on Fee Lane. I noticed that there are no speed limit signs from 17th to 10th street. When students are present I usually travel about 20 miles an hour. Yesterday a motorist passed me just before you get to the crosswalk in front of Mc Nutt. There were waves of student on both sides of Fee lane. This motorist crossed the double yellow lines traveling at about 35 miles an hour. Can speed limit signs be installed for about 20 miles an hour? This is a dangerous place for pedestrians.

Good afternoon. I live at 415 W. Graham Drive on the south side of Bloomington. I am writing in hopes of having a two- way stop become a four-way stop at the cross roads of Graham and Madison streets (and possible speed bumps put in). I have noticed (a lot) of drivers who turn on to Graham accelerate to a high speed because the west/ east of Graham does not have to stop at the intersection where Madison crosses (north to south). I cannot tell you how many times I have heard breaks squeal because the driver at the stop sign does not realize that cross traffic does not stop. Graham has a very high volume of foot traffic whether it be pedestrians walking to the bline, or their pets, or children walking home from the school bus. This makes for a very dangerous situation. I realize this is not a residential neighborhood- it's more of a city street, but I am concerned for everyone's well being and I believe making that a four-way stop would aide in motorists to slow down and be more aware of their surroundings. Thank you, Amanda

I was wondering if there could be signage added on W. 3rd Street to encourage people to use the "zipper" merge when traveling westbound towards HWY 37 during this construction? When I try to travel home each day, traffic is backed up from the highway to Liberty Drive, with all cars in the right lane, due to signs warning of the left lane being closed ahead (at the intersection of Fairfield Dr. and Highway 37). People are trying to be courteous, but they are actually slowing down traffic by doing this. I have seen a sign before that said "Use both lanes during backup" - could that be a possibility? I live on Fairfield Dr., so everyday is tough and people seem to be making poorer choices each day because of the traffic. Thank you for your time.

With the closure of Walnut Street Pike the amount of traffic (and speeders) going down Jaime Ln/Heather Dr as an unlisted detour is making the neighborhood less safe. Can the city please install temporary speed bumps?
