Animal Control & Neglected Pets

I would like to compliment the Animal Control department for a job well done. I live in College Mall Apts. on E. 2nd St. near the Mall. There was a clearly injured rabbit hunched down at the play ground area for over 8 hrs that wouldn't move even when approached. The shoulder of the rabbit seemed dislocated and I was afraid a child would try to pick it up, causing severe pain to the animal who would seriously claw or bite the child. I decided to call Animal Control and an officer was sent out who arrived quickly and did a thorough search of the playground area. What we saw when she arrived was one rabbit, somewhat unafraid of human proximity, but hopping around in a reasonably normal fashion. The spot was clear where the injured rabbit had been sitting. Apparently what happened was the rabbit managed, after hours of painful effort, to nudge its shoulder joint back into place, and was just trying things out again as the officer arrived. No way to anticipate that happening. Having the Animal Control officers respond to these situations that may seem innocuous is the right policy. Things could easily have turned out differently and the officer's response could have saved a serious injury to a child, as this occurred exactly at the playground area of College Mall Apts. In a wildlife friendly town like ours, human-animal interactions are very common, and children don't always show the proper caution. Many thanks to that officer and the City. Job well done.

The residents of 2726 S Pinehurst Drive is not leashing their 3 dogs pets per City ordinance. The dogs and their cats are allowed to wander all over the neighborhood, and the streets unleashed and uncontrolled. They are urinating and defecating in the neighbors yards. There have been many times that the dogs have ran into the roads, impeding traffic and or causing issues with other people who are attempting to ride their bikes, run, or escort their young children in wagons, across the street from them.

Brown/white bully mix constantly barks. It has jumped the fence twice already, I am worried one of the young kids in the area will be attacked. This dog is aggressive when inside the fence, not managed or contained properly. Owners have been spoke too by numerous neighbors about their concerns for the behaviors of this animal. They have said it was "rescued" from being a bate dog.

Animal Control & Neglected Pets

4239-4299 West Lilac Lane

Case Date:
7/12/2016

4231 W Lilac has a male black cat in danger; at one time I assumed and told the Animal Control Officer Eubanks that "Jack" was ok. He has swollen eye shut, signs of malnourishment and neglect by the owners at 4231 W Lilac; this family appears to be low income and have struggles; they are taking care of this cat; the cat "Jack" is in danger of more neglect and animal cruelty unless, an offcer approaches the family and sees for themself. Since the last time I spoke with Officer Eubanks, Jack the cat has deteriorated drastically. Also, I was unable to place the Momma Tortiose Shell, the good news is that she was not pregnant; she just looked like it. I have placed an ad in the paper hopefully, to seek her a new home. The tortiose momma kitty, I have been feeding, providing medical care and human interaction, she is very sweet but, it afraid to come into my home because she appears to be very afraid of other cats. So, hopefully someone will answer my ad to give her a loving home, she no longer has a cat meow voice, it is gone, she has had some trauma from the last time animal control was not able to pick her up and she was in a cage too long and that traumatized her. Her voice has not returned. Her's eyes show her pain and she loves being held, this is one sweet cat, sadly she will most likely die on my porch or underneath my home. There are not enough people around that care enough about the strays. Thanks to Nadine Eubanks and her perseverance in at least capturing two other strays at my address and getting to the facility for care.
