I am writing to sincerely apologize to the parking department for a nasty letter I included in the envelope I used to pay my parking ticket. I wrote the letter very angry over the ticket but have come to realize that the violation was strictly my fault and that there is no reason to be so angry over a twenty dollar parking ticket anyway. In contrast to what I angrily wrote on the letter, I LOVE the city of Bloomington and have been honored to study in this great college town for the last three years, and there is no doubt I will come back many times after I graduate this December. I don't know if you have received my parking ticket check and nasty letter, but please disregard the letter itself as none of what I wrote is really my opinion. Again, I sincerely apologize.

Parking Meters and Citations

Case Date:
9/27/2013

I'm not trying to appeal a ticket, but I do have a question. I received a parking ticket today because I did not properly use the meter which I should have. That was my fault, I admit. However, I took a quick look at the meter, and for some reason, it said "expires at 1:30 pm" or something like that. Do previous cars' allotted times continue even when the next person parks, and does the next person parking need to somehow stop the time and then start another session, or something like that? Just curious. Secondly, as I wrote in a comment that I realize was directed to the "other" and "public works" section of this site rather than parking, I would like to apologize again for a nasty, profane complaint letter that I included in the envelope I used to pay my parking ticket. I wrote the letter essentially in the heat of the moment, and did not mean anything I wrote at all. You may not have received the envelope yet, but it was poorly written, so please disregard it. I have a much higher view of the city than what the letter indicates and take full responsibility for today's parking situation.

Traffic Related Complaints

Case Date:
9/30/2013

This message is not really a Traffic-Related Complaint, but a request for additional street signage. We live at 2750 E. Buttonwood Lane (south-west corner of intersection of S. Sare Road and E. Buttonwood Lane), at the start of the construction of the Sare/Rogers roundabout project. Since the construction was completed, we have noticed a very substantial increase in the number of vehicles turning around in our driveway. There used to be several each week (that we knew of when we happened to see them), but now there are sometimes half dozen or more vehicles every day that use our driveway to turn around. At times, we are even standing in the driveway. Because the yellow sign indicating there is no outlet is so far from Sare Road (It

Traffic Related Complaints

Hi! We live on South Banta Avenue, and because the road is on a hill, and also because it provides a shortcut between Tapp Road and Ralston, we routinely see cars charging up and down the hill as fast as they can go. (Today we watched a truck moving uphill actually pull over to one side and make a complete stop to allow a sedan to shoot downhill past it, still accelerating.) This is terrifying, as we have two young children, one of whom is still under two years old. We routinely bike with the kids in tow, and the most frightening part of our entire journey is the short time we have to bike up or down our own street. There have been two accidents at the corner of Tapp and Banta within the past week, and a neighbor's cat was run over recently as well. I'm not sure what a workable solution would be, whether posted speed limit or children at play signs would effectively change motorist behavior. There are numerous families with children in the neighborhood, and since most of Banta Ave has neither sidewalk nor curb, children trying to move from their homes even to the neighborhood park at the Broadview Learning Center are in considerable danger--this is true throughout much of the Broadview neighborhood area. As for South Banta Avenue, I would love to see a few speed bumps put in. I'd even welcome a few giant potholes. Seriously. I hope that the intersection of Tapp and Rockport is scheduled to become a traffic circle in time, which I hope will alleviate this problem eventually. But in the meantime, I would appreciate any feedback as to what might be possible for our street, and if there is anything that we can do. Best, Kate Schramm 2706 S. Banta Ave Bloomington

Parks & Playgrounds

Case Date:
10/2/2013

Hello, There is currently a safety issue at Sherwood Oaks Park. Below the big blue slide on the playground where the mulch is worn away, there is a large chunk of concrete protruding that several children have been getting injured on. They get to the bottom of the slide and instead of landing in mulch, they're getting scraped up on the concrete chunk. There's also an additional large concrete chunk about 10 feet east of the bottom of the blue slide where mulch should be covering it. An additional note, the swing seats on the swing set there are exceedingly high. High enough that even an adult must jump up to get onto the swing. Children are not able to stop themselves when done swinging because they are set so high. Isn't there an OSHA standard for how what height the swings should be set at? Thanks, Kevin Kevin R.
