Traffic Related Complaints

E 19th St

Case Date:
11/3/2025

A few months back I brought to your attention there were missing "no parking" post/signs in the 300/400 block of E 19th St. You acknowledged this and after a month or so you put in Two 10ft poles and put two 4 inch by 4 inch "no parking" signs on the poles that are facing the wrong direction. So basically, you installed two giant poles, and with two miniature signs that are facing the wrong direction, and cars are still parking along the 300/400 blk of E 19th St. on a regular basis. The parking employee does a great job of ticketing the violators, however the cars stayed parked there for hours causing traffic congestion.

Street & Traffic Signs

E 10th St

Case Date:
8/27/2025

The crosswalk needs to be repainted on E. 10th St. that connects Woodbridge Drive on the north side of 10th St. and the Woodbridge complex on the south side of 10th St., Bell trace is also there. Countless people are crossing the street there to get to and from the bus stop on the north side. Also adults and children are crossing the street there. It’s a pedestrian and car accident waiting to happen. The crosswalk is completely faded. out. Cars goes so fast there. It would also be helpful to have signage. saying pedestrian crossing.

Line of Sight

Downtown square

Case Date:
3/14/2025

As the weather warms up, there are more and more bicyclists on the sidewalk on the square one just nearly ran over my toddler and me. I told him he was in a dismount zone. He asked where that was posted and I was unable to find a sign with that information. If that has not been repealed, it needs to be better communicated and enforced. Thank you.

City Construction Projects

Downtown Bloomington Indiana

Case Date:
10/13/2025

The islands of trees surrounded by curbs that are being constructed in the roadways throughout the city. I’m wondering why the city is installing them since they’re already responsible for the death of a deputy sheriff who died from her injuries sustained during a traffic accident in which she was responding with lights and sirens to a call got hit going threw a red light and the ambulance was called but unable to get there for an extended period of time due to the trees and curbs constructed in the roadways throughout the city leaving no room for the ambulance to navigate around pulled over vehicles. I thought that when the city removed the brand new islands that they had constructed that they would find a better speed diversion, or would at least limit the construction of new islands but instead we now have many islands that make it nearly impossible to turn onto certain roads and streets due to the lack of room because of the brick filled curbed islands and trees. It seems ridiculous to me that the people are paying for obstacles in the roadway that make it nearly impossible to drive on the streets in Bloomington. They are wonderful for bicycling and walking however seeing as the city of Bloomington does not enforce no riding bikes on the sidewalks I don’t see much importance in having bicycle lanes in the roads since people on bicycles are allowed to ride their bikes on the sidewalks, which is extremely dangerous in my opinion but I’ve witnessed hundreds of bicyclist on the sidewalks in the downtown district and on Kirkwood, where there are police station within feet of them riding their bikes on the sidewalk and no attempt to stop them has been made.

Accessibility Problem

Downtown

Case Date:
12/3/2025

I’m beyond disappointed that the city is planning to replace the brick sidewalks downtown with more bricks. The ADA requires that sidewalks be firm, stable and slip resistant. Bricks are slipperier than concrete when wet, and bricks are prone to breaking or get dislodged. The city has not maintained its existing brick sidewalks well. Please reconsider this decision, and please consult your accessibility committee before you go forth with this misguided project. Safety should prevail over looks.

Traffic Related Complaints

Discovery Pkwy & 10th St

Case Date:
10/29/2024

I use this route to take my children to school every single day of the week. I have noticed that if a vehicle is turning left from either direction off of E 10th Street they usually have to wait for oncoming traffic that is going straight through the light. This backup undoubtedly causes panic and frustration in drivers trying to make it to work or school in time because the line can be quite long. The solution for most drivers that I've noticed is to go straight through the light utilizing the Right Only turn lane. It doesn't take a genius to realize what can happen when someone unexpectedly blows through an intersection. The other issue is if the car turns left then you have 2 cars simultaneously going straight through an area that is meant to be one car. Today alone I watched 4 cars use the right lane one after another and almost cause a multi-car crash. This is especially dangerous because this area has a high volume of pedestrians feet away who are trying to make it to classes at IU. I have personally witnessed and almost been part of more accidents going in both directions at this intersection than anywhere in my entire life. I would like to offer some solutions rather than just complain. 1. Have a designated left turn lane instead of a right turn that people will inevitably blow through. 2. Add a left turn signal so one car don't hold up all of the traffic on that entire road causing people to get upset. 3. If you don't want to do either of those then at least install a sign that states the right turn lane is ONLY for right turns because people obviously don't understand what an arrow on the ground means. 4. Post a police officer here for about a week and I bet you'll see some changes. He is going to be busy though with all of the traffic violations witnessed. I would generally not even give this a second thought, but I travel this road everyday with my children to and from school. It is actually mind blowing how many close call accidents I have witnessed at this exact spot. Please look into this matter for the safety and well-being of your community. Thank you for listening and have a great day!
