Dear John, I'd like to draw your attention to something that's happening at Walnut Grove apartment complex south of town. Somebody has recently bought it, is raising the rents, and economically challenged people are having to move out with nowhere to go. I run a food pantry there once a month and have gotten to know many of the people who live there and they are angry and frightened. What's happening there may be legal, but is certainly unethical. I understand that you are interested in creating low income housing, but this is a situation where low income housing is being flipped for a profit and leaving many people literally out in the cold. Bloomington seems to be having less and less affordable housing compared to the increase of luxury apartments and high-end housing being built, which is doing nothing to help this town given how much poverty, homelessness, and gentrification plagues Bloomington.

Neighbor finally removed big bin of trash, but is still storing bags of garbage on their back porch, easy access for animals to spread garbage all over.

The Woods at Latimer apartment complex has smoke detectors in units that are up to 10 years expired. Included photo are ones removed from our unit. Maintenance claims to only replace them when residents request, since "they still work" and "It's easier to leave old ones up than go into every unit and put new ones in". When batteries in these expired ones died, we alerted maintenance and they said to take them out and just "not start a fire" overnnight, as they would be out to replace them in the morning since it wasn't considered an emergency to not have working smoke detectors in the unit.

The vacant northwest parcel located at the Countryside Lane and Starview Lane intersection is severely overgrown with noxious weeds and grass. Snakes and rodents are frequently seen in the area and many small children live in nearby homes.

The neighbors in shadow creek would like to see the city be more proactive in persuading the owner of this building lot to keep the grass mowed and remove the invasive trees that have grown out of the ponding water. The ponding happens after each rain and is a health issue for the residents, and a safety issue for kids on this street. This lot has looked like this for years as the 2 doctor investors that owned it previously were not inclined or forced to maintain it or properly fill it in. Anything you can do to help protect our property values by threatening fines and actions against the owner would be much appreciated. thank you, shadow creek residents.

Excessive growth is just for starters. The yard is nothing but overgrowth - noxious weeds, invasive honeysuckle. This is a CITY lot, not the county. In addition, I question the safety of the building and the property itself. The condition of this property violates numerous city codes and it not acceptable in my neighborhood - my CITY neighborhood.

Update for id=168611 notice indicated that the ticket was closed based on promise by owner to mow week of 6/10 today's date is 6/17 and no mowing has taken place also: who do I approach about pool (in backyard of same abandoned residence) that has not been drained/treated in two years and is attracting wildlife?

Tick heaven. There is no. It is nothing but invasive honeysuckle and weeds. I have to keep cutting it back on my property line because it continues to infringe. There are 5 children living in that house. That's their business to run the run of lyme disease and West Nile, but I don't like it being a spawning ground near me. And now the CDC has released a report about these "kissing bugs." The City code refers to "noxious weeds." They got 'em.
