Hello, I cannot find a place on this website to enter a report of dead trees on public property. Please forward this to the right office: I'm concerned about dead trees that may be hazardous to cars or people, located in the forested public right-of-way (formally known as Davis St.) beside my house: at the dead end of the 1000 block of S. Ballantine. Can the city cut down some of these trees before they're blown onto cars or the street? Additionally, we have a huge dead tree between our house (1033 S. Ballantine) and the home behind us on Highland Ave. It abuts power lines, so I assume that this is either public property or a utility easement. I have tried (off and on) for a year to get Duke to remove it. No action. Can the city either remove this tree or persuade Duke to do so before it takes down all the wires that serve both Highland and Ballantine homes on this block? Thank you.

Line of Sight

SUBWAY

Case Date:
6/19/2019

Near corner of Woodlawn/Atwater: alley that exits onto Woodlawn between Subway/apartment bldg. and rental house is dangerous. Shrubs on corner of Subway/apartment bldg. completely block the line of sight for drivers pulling out of this alley onto Woodlawn. Nothing can be seen that is approaching from the north and heading south. Have to pull car partially into the roadway to see if anything is coming. This is a heavily used alley due to an IU parking lot, IU office building and student housing rentals whose parking can only be accessed through the alley. And the area, itself, is active. This is even more dangerous to pedestrians/bikes/scooters. We cannot see them approaching and THEY CANNOT SEE US, either. It was bound to happen sooner or later and could have ended in injury or death. Yesterday I almost hit a jogger who was heading south on the sidewalk as I was trying to pull out onto Woodlawn. I couldn’t see him approaching due to the shrubs. He also could not see me! The shrubs completely blocked his line of sight and he couldn’t see that a car was approaching. The city has known about this for at least two years and hasn’t done anything to address it. My colleagues and I have tried repeatedly to have this fixed. Three cases were found in my search, but I know that there are more because this has been ongoing for longer than two years. Case #161202, 9/18/17, second half of complaint reported this. The case was closed with no mention of it having been addressed. Case #164914, 6/21/18, and case #167848, 3/21/19, are both still open. With neither showing any update that this is being addressed. Why? How can this be left unattended for so long? A whole year for case #164914! At some point there is going to be a tragedy here and it’ll be on the city for not having addressed this after multiple hazard reports.

The person that this is addressed to does not live here at 5314 S. Southway Drive. And we keep getting bills for them. Have came to report this in person and also attempted to call your office with no results. Please get this taken care of. If not to stop the annoyance to me, to help this person keep their water on.

Hello, I hope people in the Mayor's Office, HAND and the Plan Commission can take the time to read this article, as a Seattlite talks Real Talk to New Yorkers about how Amazon's investment in Seattle made the city unlivable: https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-oped-a-warning-from-seattle-20181116-story.html?utm_source=The+Evergrey&utm_campaign=744479c764-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_11_19_11_41&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b61d1a1dd2-744479c764-166797661&mc_cid=744479c764&mc_eid=dda1bc7491 . I lived in Seattle for 20 years from 1986-2007 (with a 2-year hiatus in NYC). When I arrived there at the end of the Boeing-Lockheed era, I thought, "Seattle is Bloomington with real money!" and when I arrived back in my hometown in 2007, after the Dot-Com Boom and Bust, I thought, "Bloomington is Seattle with common sense!" Well, I hope so. I hope so. Please read this article and tell me we have common sense in our pursuit of economic development. Thank you. -- Joy Shayne Laughter

Resident Miklos Santorini contacted the Office of the Mayor's Facebook page in October detailing the presence of medical waste at 718 S. Rogers. Santorini stated that, "This building is part of the hospital complex. There has been a build up of of trash, garbage and even bodily fluid specimens behind the dumpster there for over 2 years. I have tried contacting the hospital about this, but the PR people say it's a problem with the waste hauler, not them." Our intern contacted HAND at that time. A rep from HAND stated that they would be sending a neighborhood compliance officer over to take a look. Santorini contacted us again today (Jan 29, 2019) about the same property stating that, "...there is a buildup of medical waste around the dumpster. Vials of blood and urine, etc. I walked by today and it is still there, just more rotten and frozen. Does anyone in the city have the ability to at least check this out and maybe have it cleaned up?"

From Complainant Davon Patton: Hello, I contacted the NAACP about a retaliatory arrest for the Education Department and my accusations of police misconduct in 2018 and was advised to contact you once the dispute with the school was adjudicated. After doing some research on my claims the statute of limitations starts on the date of the occured action. For example; the statute of limitations on my false arrest claim began to accrue when i was arrested. The only claim that begins to accrue after the charges are dropped is malicious prosecution as one of the elements is a termination of a prosecution in my favor. I am preparing to file a suit pro se while my claims are still fresh but would like assistance finding a pro bono or contingency based lawyer and a statement from the NAACP in support of the lawsuit. My claims are as follows: 1. Free speech retaliation (Denying my petition for reinstatement in March 2018 was out of Retaliation for whistleblowing and accusations of discrimination and police misconduct) 2. Violations of Title IV of the Civil rights act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation act of 1974(Denying my petition in March 2018 was discriminatory) 3. Spoliation of Evidence(The IUPD omitted exonerating evidence from discovery) 4. Perjury (The IUPD committed perjury by including false statements in a probable cause affidavit and showed reckless disregard for the truth) 5. Defamation (The IUPD and university officials defamed me of my character by lying about the emails to the department of education and by filing false charges against me) 6. False Arrest (The University had me arrested on a false arrest warrant alleging intimidation for sending the provost a Kanye West Song) 7. Retaliatory arrest (I was arrested in June of 2018 for engaging in free speech and federal protected activities) 8. Retaliatory prosecution (I am being prosecuted out of retaliation for free speech and engaging in federal protected activities 9. Vindictive Prosecution (I was arrested and prosecuted because of racial animus). 10. Intentional Inflection of emotion distress 11. Abuse of Legal Process (I was prosecuted for illegal motives) 12. obstructing a pending proceeding before Congress or a federal administrative agency(I was arrested out of retaliation for the department of education) 13. conspiracy to injure using unlawful means(school has letter from therapist talking about how I’ve recovered from the trauma of being wrongfully arrested in 2016 University again wrongfully arrests and prosecutes me in 2018) Claims waiting to be filed: 1. (Malicious prosecution will be amended to complaint once charges are dropped at the time of this complaint my lawyer is getting ready to file a motion to dismiss on multiple grounds) 2. I am still researching other possible claims A refresher on my story can be found here local groups such as the Bloomington DSA, YDSA Bloomington, and Btown Antifa have shared the story aswell: https://bloomingtonsolidaritynetwork.tumblr.com/post/176958755178/who-will-survive-in-america Those CC'd are those who you had CC'd in an earlier email to me, Vauxx Booker, and Kevin Brown an IU professor who is suing the IMPD.
