The Rail Trail needs some work! It needs YOU to show it some love. There are some problems . . .
FIRST: Entering the Rail Trail from Country Club, the trees / shrubs at the parking lot are overgrowing into the sidewalk / path along the parking lot. You can almost not see the handicap parking sign from the overgrowth, too. The sidewalk is being impeded horizontally as well as vertically from branches hanging down.
SECOND: There are numerous low hanging branches between Country Club and Gordon Pike on the trail. On a bicycle, these require ducking or maneuvering around. This can be hazardous.
THIRD: There is a dead tree that is leaning over the trail, resting its top on another tree across the trail. That is between Country Club and Gordon Pike. This is maybe 1/3 to 1/2 a mile south of the Country Club Drive parking lot. This seems like it is ripe for falling on someone or blocking the trail, as it hangs there perilously.
FOURTH: Someone goofed and put oversized gravel on the trail to fix some holes. This gravel is not safe on the trail for multiple reasons. One reason is that it is looser than the other gravel, so it is a change in surface that can cause bikes or walkers to lose balance. Also, the gravel is bigger so it is tougher to ride or walk or run across, and could cause injuries. As a result, people swerve around it and try to avoid it. This is causing people going in one direction to impede those going in the other at times. Can we get some smaller gravel / fill that matches the existing bed of the trail put in place? Having that big gravel is a total disaster creating multiple problems. I've almost lost balance / control on my bike in that bigger gravel. It needs to be replaced ASAP.

The Clear Creek Trail is under attack by the local flora! Yes, that's right - the vegetation is taking over.
The entire route of the trail, from Tapp Road to Church Lane, needs to be seriously trimmed back. The trees and brush are overtaking the trail.
There are hazards from both a vertical and horizontal line of attack. In places the trail is narrowed by the overgrowth crowding out the trail. In other places, there are branches hanging down low that can take a rider off a bike.
The entire length of the trail needs some trim work to cut back the overgrowth and low hanging branches and restore the trail to its full width. The trail would be much safer with this work completed.

The overgrowth onto the trail here at the B-Line / Rail Trail and Country Club Road parking is a serious issue. It is heavily obscuring the right of way on the sidewalk. This evening, with this pickup truck and its shin-buster hitch backed up, the trail was just about impassable on a bicycle. Can this get cleaned up??? I know this has been reported multiple times before and no work has been done to clean up the overgrowth.

At the intersection of 6th and Rogers, cars regularly block the entrance/exit to the Near West Side neighborhood when they move from the 4-way stop at 7th and Rogers to the intersection of Kirkwood and Rogers. I would suggest marking the 6th and Rogers intersection with a "Don't Block the Box" pavement marking. Something needs to be done to stop vehicles in both directions from blocking the intersection of 6th and Rogers.

Cars travel too fast on Grimes between Woodlawn and Henderson. Speed bumps could help slow the speed of traffic.

Topic: West 16th, Hancock Dr., and West 15th section through/beside Crestmont Park.
This is a beautiful, and I believe under-appreciated stretch of street. Quiet, park setting with trees. However, there is one problem - the road is extremely narrow. Too narrow. If a car is coming one way and encounters a car coming the other way, one has to stop and pull half-way off the road for the other to get by. This is particularly problematic because the blacktop drops off several inches right at the edge and the soil at the edge is often washed out in certain areas. Another issue is that some drivers drive entirely too fast through here and then cut the corner at the bottom of the hill too tightly - this has practically run me off the road in the past.
I don't wish to suggest that this section of street be widened. That would ruin its park-like atmosphere. What I would like to suggest is this: Starting at Lindbergh, W. 15th, Hancock, and W. 16th up to Monroe St be made one-way westbound. Then, the section of Lindbergh between W. 15th and W. 17th be switched to one-way northbound once 17th is reopened. I don't think that much traffic normally comes up Lindbergh where it would create that much more traffic on W.16th, etc. Perhaps put down counters to check, but it would cut out the traffic from one way and make the road more safe.
Even if none of this is pursued, one thing that is definitely needed are "SLOW" signs and "PARK" signs. There may be a sign marking that there is a ninety-degree curve does in the bottom, but if not, there needs to be one of those too.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you will give this some consideration - at least definitely the part about the signs.
