Temporary Signage w/o permit
813 W Kirkwood AVE
- Case Date:
- 10/14/2020
There is a sign advertising an AirBnB rental attached to a tree on the property at 813 Kirkwood Ave. The tree is one of two on either side of the alley next to the property, and is located on the berm between the street and the sidewalk, and so appears to be in the city's Right of Way. As far as I understand it, this signage is in violation of the Bloomington Municipal Code, Title 12 (Streets, Sidewalks, and Storm Drains), Chapter 24.080 (Trees and Flora), Ord. 08-06 ยง 2 (part), 2008) - Prohibited actions, which states "(2) No person shall do any of the following to trees subject to these provisions:
(b) Attach any wires, nails, chains, cables, advertising posters or any other contrivance"
I would appreciate it if the city removed this sign and prevented such actions by the landlord in the future.

The owners of this property currently have a contractor cutting an entire tree down, blocking the alleyway. They frequently have contractors and tenants of their airbnb in and out of their property, blocking the street, blocking cars in, encroaching on nearby property. No one in the adjacent properties were notified this would be happening. This tree is old and enormous, and one of a pair that was clearly planted together years ago. They're chopping it down instead of fixing their sewage - not illegal or a violation, but 100% selfish yuppie hogshit in keeping with everything else they've done.

2nd day in a row the owners of 813 W Kirkwood have directed a tree removal service to park in, and block off, the alleyway. Yesterday, they occupied the entire length of the alley, cutting off every driveway and blocking everyone in. Today, after seeing they intended to drive heavy equipment over my yard to access 813, I told them not to, and they proceeded to anyway. Business is Anthony's Lawn Care, 812-929-9463.

There are two cars (one navy/black and the other white) that have been parked continuously in the parking lot for about a week or so. The people in the cars have recently started littering the park.

The security lights both on the trail and the parking lot have been off at dark for the past several days. I'm not sure if they are damaged or just turned off for some reason.

Something is wrong with the telescope on the playground equipment at Butler park. My grand daughter's finger got pinched in it (it folded over on her finger) and 2 days later it is still hurting her. I hope this can be checked so no other child gets hurt. Seems to be defective? Thanks a lot.

Tree branches overhang 9th St. sidewalk at Butler Park hanging lower than five feet--impassable without ducking or leaving sidewalk--very difficult for elderly pedestrians. Hard to understand why the city is issuing citations for minor aesthetic violations when their own property has significant issues with accessibility, unmowed grass, and poison ivy next to walkways. Come on, Bloomington. Stop empowering harassment and instead prioritize violations that actually impede safety and access.
