Fire / Theft / Squatting hazard. Can we talk about this nuisance location? It has had two fires in 5 months, at an abandoned house known for homeless squatters that are proven bike thieves, in a residential neighborhood. The yard is full of stolen bicycle frames and stolen firewood. The owner is an elderly 76 YO woman who lives south of the city limits. Clearly this is an abandoned / squatter sitution that is a public hazard. What do we need to tolerate?

Yet again tonight I could not sit on my porch because of the hazy of toxic smoke in The Near West side neighborhood. This has been an ongoing issue for the last year and a half at least. Someone is burning trash or plastic on the other side of the rail lines on empty property to the north of the B-line between Adams and where 8th St ends next to White Oak cemetery. The smoke drifts across the neighborhood. I know a neighbor reported it on Saturday night and the police went to check the site out. But it also happened Sunday and tonight. What can be done about it? Such unhealthy air.

The contractor that did the construction in the basement did it without permits, it also violates the fire code. This facility treats disabled individuals struggling with mental health and addiction.

My next door neighbor, Carl James, (at 703 W. 7th Street) burns trash and plastic and Styrofoam in his wood stove. The smoke is heavy, black and acrid. It is polluting the air. I think there must be regulations against burning trash like this. We have asked him not to do this and explained to him that it creates toxins in the air. A group of neighbors chipped in and bought him two ricks of wood recently, but his son took most of it and resold it. We do not know what else to do. Can someone from the City talk to him about this? Thank you.

To whom it may concern, I am not sure who I should address my question to, so please forward this question to the correct person. I am getting married on May 3, 2014. At the end of our ceremony, we would like to go outside and release paper lanterns to float off into the sky. It dawned on me that I should ensure this idea is permissible within city limits. A large piece of garden row cover is stuck to the top of a utility poll on the SW corner of Waldron and 6th.
