Traffic Suggestions

Hello, If you are not the correct contact, would you please forward this as appropriate? I am a faculty member at the School of Education. I walk to work daily and need to cross Third St. at Rose Ave. Is there any chance of having a crosswalk at this intersection? It is often very difficult to cross with the sometimes long lines of traffic coming from both directions. Finding a break in the traffic and competing with traffic turning onto Third from Rose is often very dangerous. Also, since I walk on Rose heading north from Hunter, I am forced to walk on the road until I reach Third St. What are the chances of having sidewalk installed on Rose south of Third? Thanks for considering this. Hannah -- Hannah Schertz, Ph.D. Indiana University School of Education 201 N Rose Ave. Bloomington, IN 47405 812-856-8146

Sidewalk & Curb Complaints

The entrance to the alley between 725 S. and 701 S. Highland is a wreck with a steep step off that included a sheared off street level. And the concrete is broken up with a muddy base up to the line of the alley-city sidewalk. Also the curb from 701 S. to the alley is broken and muddy. Additionally the entrance to the same alley from Jordan Ave. is also broken, but less so.

Hi! We live on South Banta Avenue, and because the road is on a hill, and also because it provides a shortcut between Tapp Road and Ralston, we routinely see cars charging up and down the hill as fast as they can go. (Today we watched a truck moving uphill actually pull over to one side and make a complete stop to allow a sedan to shoot downhill past it, still accelerating.) This is terrifying, as we have two young children, one of whom is still under two years old. We routinely bike with the kids in tow, and the most frightening part of our entire journey is the short time we have to bike up or down our own street. There have been two accidents at the corner of Tapp and Banta within the past week, and a neighbor's cat was run over recently as well. I'm not sure what a workable solution would be, whether posted speed limit or children at play signs would effectively change motorist behavior. There are numerous families with children in the neighborhood, and since most of Banta Ave has neither sidewalk nor curb, children trying to move from their homes even to the neighborhood park at the Broadview Learning Center are in considerable danger--this is true throughout much of the Broadview neighborhood area. As for South Banta Avenue, I would love to see a few speed bumps put in. I'd even welcome a few giant potholes. Seriously. I hope that the intersection of Tapp and Rockport is scheduled to become a traffic circle in time, which I hope will alleviate this problem eventually. But in the meantime, I would appreciate any feedback as to what might be possible for our street, and if there is anything that we can do. Best, Kate Schramm 2706 S. Banta Ave Bloomington
