I own the property located at 1005 N. Jackson St, 47404. Shortly after purchasing the property the house next door burned down. We felt very fortunate that our house was not damaged. The house was demolished, however, shortly after demolishing the house someone has set up a tent on the lot and multiple people have been seen using the tent. There is trash surrounding the tent. Though we have not seen a fire there is what appears to be a makeshift fire pit. We use this property as a short term rental and it has the proper permits. I am personally concerned about the safety of my wife who spends some of her days working on improvements within the property. Obviously concerned about the impact on our ability to rent the home with the above described situation. I'm not sure what can be done but after reviewing the code it does not seem like this fits the intended use of the property. I am also empathetic to the rise of homelessness in our community, but this is a residential neighborhood and for the safety of all community members something should be done. We dodged a serious issue when the house burnt down and worry we may not be so lucky if something happens again. Thanks for your attention to this matter, please reach out with any questions. This rental property (Orion property) has had multiple bags of trash sitting by the road for two weeks. The grass is overgrown. I asked the property managers (Orion properties) to clean up the garbage and the person showing the house said they think the city will pick it up and he wasn't worried about it. I don't know why the city allows bags of garbage to remain by the road for two weeks, skipped over by garbage collection for two weeks and nothing is done about it.
As of 5/8/17 one full garbage can remains uncollected from this Orion properties rental. This uncovered can has been on the street for at least 3 weeks and the collection crews continue to pass it by. Last week the garbage bags that were laying by the street were collected, but the full can was left. No action taken by the city for 3+ weeks. From the city website: "Do not place containers out more than 24 hours in advance and remove them from the curb on the same day as pick up. A violation may result in a fine up to $50. Each day a violation continues is a separate violation." This means Orion properties should be fined in excess of $1050.00.
Orion properties has left the garbage can on the curb for another full week. Who should these problems be reported to? This reporting platform is ineffective.
The occupants of this house stand in the doorway smoking cigarettes and when they are done they throw them into the street. I have seen this many times and they take no caution about any pedestrians who are walking on a sidewalk right into the path of a flying lit cigarette. I do not feel comfortable approaching these people. Thank you for checking on this ongoing littering problem.
This time I have included a photo. This is how the sidewalk and gutter has been since I moved here a year ago. Disgusting. Note the cigarettes on the sidewalk as those are the ones thrown from the door with complete disregard for people walking in the public right of way. Previous Ureport is #175706.
