An old house was demolished on Friday 7 Nov. It had been clad in cement tiles, likely asbestos-containing transite. It appears that there was no attempt to isolate the hazardous waste from the bulk, so is it now all classified as hazardous? If so, is the contractor required by the State to dispose of the mass of waste resulting from the demolition in a special way, or perhaps into a designated landfill that accepts such waste? Attached is a picture of tiles that were left strewn about on the alley (a public thoroughfare) after the demolishers drove away. In the days since, people and/or animals have been stepping on the tiles and crushing them, possibly releasing friable asbestos fibers. There is a dog living immediately across the alley from this now toxic site. Is it unsafe for the dog to walk on the ground in this area? Or does the City even care about such things? Maybe it would it be better to just look the other way and let the people with money do whatever they please (?)
Street & Traffic Signs

It would be helpful to have a west-pointing "One Way" sign installed on the east side of the Lincoln/Cottage Grove intersection and maybe even a "Do Not Enter" sign to alert drivers intending to turn right that they are about to encounter one-way traffic headed west. Currently, there is a west-pointing "One Way" sign on the NW corner of the intersection, but (ironically) view of it is mostly blocked by a "Do Not Enter" sign on the SW corner of the same intersection. Drivers on Lincoln who approach this intersection and who are unfamiliar with the street directions in this neighborhood could (do) easily turn right and head east against the traffic direction, formally in commission of a moving violation but it seems unfair to ticket them when the street layout is not well-communicated to the drivers. Note: there might have been a sign in this location in the past, but there have been some ADA-sidewalk projects in the area recently that necessitated temporary removal of signs, and any signs laying about could then have been picked up by a member of one of the local fraternities, notorious for sign theft in the neighborhood.

It is frustrating that reports made about trash and couches on porches do not seem to be followed through with. HAND says they do so, but the problems continue. This house, for example - *MOUNDS* of trash are piled up on the west side of the building, and couches remain on the porches all in full view of Runcible Spoon customers. Does HAND issue daily fines that accrue? Or does HAND even issue fines? And if so, does HAND ever actually collect the fines? And if they do, what happens to the money they collect? And if any or all of this happens, are there any records of the fines and their collection statuses viewable by the public? The same issues (trash, couches) are continuing at other addresses in the neighborhood, such as 213 N. Grant and 317 E. 7th, both in view of Grant Street Inn visitors.

This property neglects to take their trash to the street. It is next door to a restaurant. Their overflow trash ends up in our parking lot and on our property. We are having complaints from our customers, not to mention how embarrassing and gross all the trash looks. Something has got to give with these young ‘men’ and this issue.

they are so loud all the time, either screaming profanities or just screaming or playing music too loud. i can hear it across the street in my apartment. the music isn’t even good. they hit the building we live in with golf balls. when they throw parties, all of the people are in the street and in front of our building because they’re so drunk and there’s no room for them. they attract motorcycles and humongous trucks that rip up and down the one way street we live on. i’ve lived here for three years and they are by far the worst they have ever been this year. i can’t do homework or sleep without headphones. please, please help

The sidewalk on Grant St consistently has trash and recycling bins that are out for multiple days, into weeks. This house/apt in particular usually has their bins blocking the sidewalk.
