Sidewalk ends at creek, forcing pedestrians to cross busy road with no crosswalk or walk on the road. With Switchyard Park, pedestrian traffic is now much higher. Sidewalk needs to be continuous here.
The section of sidewalk along W 6th St in front of Fairview Methodist Church on the north side between Jackson and Fairview streets is in really bad shape. Most of the sidewalks in this area were recently replaced or shaved but this section really needs to be replaced. A person I was walking with recently tripped there and lost a lot of skin off of hands/knees/chin so this section really is dangerous, especially since most of the sidewalks around there are new so you aren't expecting it on this highly traveled section. Hello, I am the facilities manager of Trinity Episcopal Church (111 s Grant Street). A while back our gas meter was moved by (then Vectren) in conjunction with the Culvert work that is ongoing by Milestone. They moved the meter from the back of our building where it was safe - to the corner where it is in a precarious position. In doing so they have compromised the sidewalk, causing the corner to crack and one of the metal plates to raise up forming a lip - which has been reported to me as being a tripping hazard. I've asked numerous times to have the area addressed (specifically the meter itself) and have been ignored by (now) Centerpoint. The sidewalk deterioration is just the latest part of the failure to sensibly relocate that meter in a safe manner. Does the Street department address this? And who can I talk to about the meter itself? It is exposed to Traffic traveling through the alley and will be damaged at some point by a large truck. The sidewalk / side path that runs through the South East park near the tennis courts is substantially below grade of the adjacent Moores Pike roadway. I walk through here on a daily basis, often with small children, and it feels a bit dangerous when cars are zooming by. Has the city considered a guardrail or other physical separation here?
Cross Walk on 10th Street in front of Kelley. The city and IU buses use the bus lanes in front of the library, past the crosswalk. The private apartment buses have turned the crosswalk into a bus stop. The students wait there. A bus pulls up, stops to load/unload. Pedestrians wanting to cross are blocked and back up. East-bound cars are backed up. The bus will sometimes wait if they see one of their clients coming down the sidewalk. Stops range from 15 sec to 45 seconds. Once the bus moves, the pedestrian backlog has to get across. The walkway, while necessary, is obviously a bottleneck. Having a private bus stop and block it for no reason only adds to the problem. Make the private buses (and their riders) walk up to the bus pull off lanes like everyone else. The back up on 10th street is already at a failing level. There is no reason to let private apartment transit buses make it worse.
Responded... Hi Nick. First of all, thanks for submitting this uReport. The more folks that say something about it, the better. Second, I know this person and his mother is actually the chair of the Council for Community Accessibility. While neither have directly complained about this issue it has been on our radar as other people have seen him try to navigate that stretch of Smith Road. So I went out and did a full survey from 3rd to 10th Streets and reported every issue along that route. Then I participated in a discussion about it with the Engineering and Planning. It's not so easy to address this one because it's very narrow and can't be widened. It would also be fairly costly to do the whole route. But we have placed it on the sidewalk priority list that was submitted to Planning departments for their next round of sidewalk construction. We won't know how that very limited budget gets spent for a while, but sure hope it includes addressing this one. So that's where we stand on it. Fingers are crossed! Request sidewalk to be installed on north side of E 13th Street. Many pedestrians walk in the road on this busy stretch of two-way traffic.
Following up on UReport #178307 Residents are still driving over the curb and on the sidewalk and through the yard on 200 N. Lincoln as the picture shows and parking in the yard.
The address for this issue is at 302 E. 7th st. The picture that I’m including shows the tenants at this house are coming North on 200 N Lincoln st driving over the curb/Sidewalk and driving through their yard and sometimes parking in the back yard.
There is a need for sidewalk on the east side of S Walnut street between E Winslow Rd and E Ridgeview Dr. It's a very dangerous stretch where motorists tend to speed and includes a blind hill. There are pedestrians walking along the shoulder of this road constantly. Thank you for your time.
