While it's always been an issue by my definition, the amount of speeding has seemed to have gone way up in recent weeks/months. There are a lot of kids playing in this general area and many of us in the neighborhood are more and more concerned. What can be done?

Can someone in BPD as well as OOTM please read this article and consider how the City of Bloomington may work to make their streets actually safe and civil... Please take note of the quote about their goal. I think Bloomington needs to make the goal of public safety a top and most important priority! This is what the city of New Orleans is doing to help their police department with their staff shortages. 'They will have duties such as monitoring phone and online reports, issuing traffic citations, surveying major events like Mardi Gras and the Essence Festival and even doing some investigative work. Civilians would additionally be dispatched to calls that may not require an officer, such as collecting preliminary evidence, securing loose pets and responding to forgery, certain medical episodes and some thefts, New Orleans Police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said last Thursday. 'The goal of all of this is to make our officers feel safe so that they can make our citizens and visitors feel safe,' Ferguson said. 'This is also to reduce some of the workload currently placed on our patrol and district personnel. But more importantly this is designed to reduce response time and address the backlogs in which we have in some of our districts.'" This intersection has people going east and westbound on 45/46 running red lights daily
Traffic's been unusually bad at the Hillside & High traffic light this week due to the Sare Road closure. High is being used as a detour. This is problematic since Childs school drop-off (8:30-9) and pick-up (3:30-4) result in lengthy back-ups at the High & Hillside intersection. Can someone be assigned to direct traffic at this intersection during those high periods of use while the Sare construction is happening?
Address is 1437 W Countryside Lane in Sunflower Gardens association. We've formed Neighborhood Watch and want to put up signage, but need to know where they can be placed and to alert city so their placement is approved and they won't be taken down. To whom should I speak?
Resident reports persistent speeding and disregard for stop signs on East Blue Ridge Drive in a neighborhood setting and requests increased police patrols in the area.
All Stop signs and speed limit signs on Henderson St., from Miller Dr. to 1st Street seem to be invisible because no one ever heeds them. I would think Police presence would help, but perhaps public works could do something to convince motorists that this is not a major, high speed artery. We have a school, a park, and many pedestrians. Yesterday (4/8/13) I saw a car, traveling 40-50 mph, narrowly miss a college student at the bus stop by Blacks Lumber. Also two children have been hit in the Templeton School zone this year. This is a problem.
On 10th St during the rush hours, drivers going straight will often swerve into the right turn lanes to go around drivers who are turning left and waiting for a break in the traffic. This is dangerous and I had an close call once when I was going to turn right onto Pete Ellis and a driver in the straight/left turn lane swerved into my lane to get around the car in front of them. This is also dangerous since a driver turning left doesn't expect oncoming vehicles in the right turn lane to go straight. I'd recommend a traffic officer be present during the rush hours one day to ticket people who do this so people realize that this is not acceptable. Thanks for listening!
