My next door neighbors at 2100 W 106th St have a bush in the grass area between side walk & street that grows high & wide & blocks the view from driveway to see the traffic on 106th St. It's a busy street & difficult to pull out & back out as is, but with the neighbors bush it makes it even more difficult. It blinds the view and we are concerned of getting in an accident because of it. For last few years it's grown taller & wider & we even talked to the neighbors about it about 1 1/2 yrs ago, but they didn't seem to think it was an issue & did nothing about it. I don't want to be a disgruntled neighbor, but also do not want to get in a car accident from the blinding view, trying to leave my driveway. It is very frustrating. I would like to know what the rules are for planting trees, bushes or plants on the section of grass between the sidewalk & street is & if the neighbors could be requested to remove or trim down the bush.

The street lamps that are posted coming out of the sidewalks have been knocked out and not working for some time, but the building blocks any kind of light coming from busier streets and the light coming from 3rd Street and Allison jukebox is not enough that you can see walking down the sidewalk. As an employee of middleway house, my supervisor has given me permission to report to you that clients have experience not feeling safe and needing flashlights to navigate the sidewalk at night. The worst area is on the southwest side of the sidewalk between the gates of the new wings building down to Smith Avenue. It is also dark across the street from another building owned by middleway house, the rise at 401 South Washington. It is very dark on the west side of the street and our clients and are coming home with their children taking the bus when the bus station often is closed. Please work with whoever the property management is of that apartment building because I'm sure they need to install proper lighting for their own tenant's safety, especially on the doorways and entry points that make people feel unsafe walking by. I believe the city needs to install more lighting as well. This area has been begging increasingly unsafe, although close to 3rd St Police. Thank you for giving this the attention it deserves.

Throughout the winter and currently, this uninhabited property has had unhoused people utilizing the garage in the back yard. People wander the alley and wander in the yard on a regular basis. The home also never had the sidewalks cleared from snow causing hazardous conditions for those of us who walk. Thank you. Near West Side Neighbors

Leaf Collection

2101 E Woodstock PL

Case Date:

I live on Woodstock Place, and several of my neighbors have leaf-blown their leaves into great piles along the street. I'm concerned that the street has been narrowed for traffic and that the leaves will be washed down into the sewers and cause backups. There was a yard sign in the yard nearest High Street about no leaf collection this year, but evidently it has been ignored. Can my neighbors be compelled to mulch or collect their leaves before they turn into a slick mess this winter?

Inaccessible Parking

Hello, I'm a part-time employee (SPEA fellow) at the City, in the Dept. of Planning & Transportation, and I have a few concerns about the part-time parking spots at Showers. First, is the part-time spots are incredibly far away from the main entrance to City Hall, adjacent to the Showers Red lot (in fact, as far away as you can possibly get while still staying in the Showers parking lot). Now, this isn't a problem for an able-bodied person like myself, but I had a friend who worked as an intern for the Controller's office this summer who has knee problems, making this walk excruciating for him. So bad was it that he usually parked at a meter, for an entire four hour shift, which meant that he essentially had to pay $4 to come to work everyday. My other issue with the part-time parking spaces is the incredible lack of them: there are only 5. Very rarely are less than 5 part-time workers working at one time, so it's really a crap shoot when I come to work (MWF) as to whether I can actually find a space. Many times I've also had to park at a meter. And today (11/29) the PT employee parking signs that designate which spaces are available to PT employees were removed, so some employees at the business end of Showers were parked in what should be PT spots, so there were even less spaces available than usual. I understand wanting to encourage walking/biking and public transit, but this isn't feasible for everyone, because rent is astronomical near Showers, especially to PT workers who don't get paid very much. I live pretty far out, so walking/biking is pretty much impossible, and public transit is highly inconvenient. I just wish the City was a little more inclusive of its part-time workers (especially those with disabilities), and the fact that only 5 parking spaces are available to us (a 5 minute walk from the entrance to City Hall, no doubt) is really disappointing and, in fact, a little insulting. I hope, in the renovation of parking happening in the FT section of the lot, that the City will consider adding some more PT spaces.

Inaccessible Parking

Monroe County Court House

Case Date:

It's not inaccessible, but the parking lines around the square are now completely invisible this morning, under a light dusting of snow. I contacted the City about this two months ago, and got a message saying that it was "resolved" and that they "would be painting the lines this week." They remain unpainted. I am the County Recorder, I work in the Courthouse, and I and many others here arrive before full light in the winter. We cannot see to park. Please get these painted at the earliest possible date. Thank you. -Eric Schmitz
