Unsafe Buildings

Case Date:
10/24/2022

I’ve been complaining to the property manager for over a year now about the cracks and mold in my apartment and nothing is being done about it. I keep on being told that the cracks throughout my apartment and separation of my wall and floor are from the building settling. These buildings are several decades old and I don’t understand how multiple cracks in the walls, cement block walls on the second story, and floor are separating this drastically after so many years of the building being here. And the mold has been getting worse and worse in my apartment. The most they did was spray mold spray in 2 of my vents. They established there was a moisture problem and didn’t fix it properly and I believe that there is mold in my vents and in the wood rot in my bathroom. Me and my son are constantly sick in home because of the mold. There is mold perpetually in my toilet, my tub, the vents, maintenance found mold in my cub area and drawers and there’s even mold on my smoke detectors.

I reside at Cambridge Square Apartments bldg303 Apartment 313. The manager Diane Cook repeatedly violates the lease with myself and several owner residents current and former. She is required to give 48 hours notice before entering. She does not and or enters 2 days after in some instances!

My smoke detector has went off for weeks. After notifying a staff office member she was very dismissive and rude about it. And it's still not fixed and worries me. Clogged sink. Light bulbs in bathroom and microwave over light. Bathroom has mold. Black mold. Smoke detector hanging from my son's room by wire and they never sent maint. Drugs and needles (what I believe must have been drugs) many times in the hallways staircases and elevator. Used condom wrappers in hallways and staircases.

Cambridge Square Apartment bldg303 unit 313. Manager Diane Cook rented me an apartment which had bed bugs. She knew of these conditions and denied numerous current and past residents treatment for what is infecting our apartments. Then she routinely blames clients to get them evicted which she is currently trying to do to me!

Trash

Case Date:

This empty lot is on North Summit two lots South of 11th. This collection of garbage occurred from a camp during the last several months. The camp has since vacated and has relocated. The same result is sure to occur again unfortunately at a new location. This was reported at the beginning and was told nothing could be done and the neighborhood should work it out. This issue is destroying our city. Regardless of this being a private or city lot or in what area of the city this is taking place someone in city government needs to take ownership and provide the leadership and use of city resources to remedy this issue. Citizens and neighborhood associations can only do so much. Landlords and property owners need to be held accountable. Action needs to be taken. The problem is only getting worse. This case needs to remain active until this situation is resolved. A simple drive by is no solution. It’s obvious that if we cannot take care of the issues on Kirkwood (the focal point of our community) current department leaders are not qualified to continue in their positions. This can be remedied without being harsh or heavy handed. It takes leadership, commitment, communication and perseverance.
