There is a "tent" structure in the front yard of this property. The legal owner is deceased and her adult children occupy this house without paying taxes. The homeless people who congregate here do not have access to a bathroom or sewage system. The property is littered with clothing and trash. This property has been under an abatement, which I believe ended when the property was sold recently at the Treasurer's tax sale. This property continues to be an eyesore and a health concern from feces & urine (from lack of restroom access), as well as rodent & insect investations. I have also seen needles from drug use scattered on the road in the past.

Street Trees

814 S Henderson ST

Case Date:

There is a huge, beautiful sycamore tree at the northwest corner of Wylie where it intersects with Henderson St. Hard to tell if this is a homeowner tree or in the easement, but the tree is really right hard up against Henderson on one side and Wylie on the other, hardly any clearance away from either street, so I am guessing it is in the public easement. The sight lines trying to turn onto Henderson from Wylie are already tough just because of the size of that tree, but the problem now is new branches have begun growing out low down out of the side of the tree. They are extending now right directly into the sight line as one tries to look north on Henderson before turning from Wylie. I know the neighbors living at that house on that lot have mentioned watering the tree a lot in recent years and that the tree has responded with new growth. But an accident is now certain to occur unless one is extremely careful and nudges one's car into Henderson almost to see around the new luxuriant limbs and leaves that are getting bigger and bigger. This summer it has been really noticeable. The limbs are not huge and they are low, at human level, so trimming would be very easy. I think it would be a very good idea for the city to take care of this before a t-bone accident happens at that intersection. If this isn't a public tree, can the city inform the homeowner that this is becoming a danger to traffic safety so that they can get it cut ASAP? Thank you.

What are these channels called, technically? I call this one the "Davis Street Canal." There's another between Mitchell and Eastside at Hunter. And one somewhere in Prospect Hill or the Near West Side. I often walk past the one along Davis, and always wonder what they are called, officially. Please satisfy my curiosity, if you can. Thanks!!
