Hello, there is a massive issue with drivers running red lights and stop signs in this city. I have marked a particularly bad intersection (Madison and 11th), however this issue is city-wide. The included intersection has a wall on the bridge that prevents vehicles from seeing around the corner to 11th street, which often means that people just roll right through the stop sign. I've been almost T-boned at this intersection multiple times, and I genuinely fear I may die there some day.
I have already been hit once by someone ignoring traffic laws on Third Street, and have almost been hit on foot and in my vehicle countless times downtown. It has gotten to the point where I am afraid to travel around the city.
There should be traffic cameras on the stop lights, and more aggressive fines to deter these people casually ignoring safety and traffic laws. I understand that it is hard to enforce stop signs, however I have witnessed (on multiple occasions) police patrol vehicles allowing people to run right through 4-way stops, and some even do it themselves. People are learning that there are absolutely no consequences for driving recklessly around the city, and it has gotten noticeably worse.
Please, consider taking action about the extremely unsafe traffic situation in our city.

On 3 recent occasions, I have seen cars going south on N Forrest Ave blow through the intersection at E Cottage Grove Ave (at the SE corner of Luddy Hall) without even slowing down for the stop sign. The first 2 times I saw it, I just chalked it up to new student drivers but on the 3 time I took a closer look at the intersection and think I see the problem. There is a tree in front of the stop sign that totally obscures the view of the stop sign until you are basically right at the intersection. See that attached picture that I took standing in the middle of the traffic lane that shows the exact view the driver sees. By the time they see the stop sign it is way too late to stop. I'm not sure what the best fix is but trimming the tree seems like a simple option. There is a huge amount of foot traffic in that area during the school year and I would hate to see someone hurt at this intersection. Thanks!
