Ref: Saturday Farmer's Market I implore the mayor of Bloomington to not resort to the extreme action of closing the Saturday Farmer's Market as a solution to calming the tensions around a particular market stand at the farmer's market. Bloomington's farmers market is at its peak time of year late July/early August. I have arranged for out of town company to be in Bloomington this weekend in large part because the market yields such a wonderful market Saturday dinner. I myself am making a trip into town from DC for the weekend to host my out of town guests. The city MUST find a less destructive way of calming the tensions than that of closing the market. I thought the Bloomington police handled themselves well Saturday at the market. They were put in a bad position needing to enforce the parks department decision to trespass a protester. The officers were calm, courteous, and professional throughout despite being yelled at and called names. Thanks for keeping us safe and civil as best you can given the circumstances. I'm sorry people are taking out frustrations on you.
Bloomington Farmers market. The mayor's office deserves an f for the way they have handled this. everyone no matter what their belief has an equal right to be at the Farmers market
Hello City of Bloomington - I want to suggest that you learn about and advocate for the City to join the Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) - https://www.racialequityalliance.org. It's a national network geared to local and regional government agencies. We know white supremacy is a systemic problem, not unique to B'town. The City should work in coalition and learn from other govt. entities committed to progressive social change. Mayor Hamilton and other City leaders know about GARE but have never joined. We're not a progressive city. BUT we could make a serious move towards being one if we take bold, strategic action. Joining GARE is a start. Thanks for taking seriously this suggestion. I live near the fire station. Today(06/27) about 6:30pm I opened the door, went out and found some fire fighters chatting on the fire station's balcony. I'm sure they noticed me, too. I passed the station and there is no other people walking at that way at the same time. I heard a hugh shouting to me in a sudden. I think it was the gang on the balcony trying to scare me and make fun of me. Just because I'm an Asian girl.
Hello, I live two doors down from the Banneker center. I have a request that the city, park the van either on the side street next to the center or in front of the center...I realize this is city parking and they have a right to park there. The staff park the van in front of my house and leave it there all weekend and they usually park the van directly in front of mine and my neighbor's house, while they have plenty of room on the west side of the building to park. Or possibly at the girls Club. They usually leave the van there all weekend . They usually park at at least 3 feet from the end of the yellow line. We can normally park three cars there. This effectively cuts off any accessible parking in front of my house and my neighbor's house. I don't mind the extra parking for the kids activities all during the week but this is the staff van.
