I returned Mr Pollock's call. He explained there is a "creek" behind his property that carries a lot of water and wanted to know what to do about some erosion he is seeing. I explained this is common in neighborhoods to have the drainage directed through back yards and this is likely a utility and drainage easement. The easement does not mean the city is responsible for maintaining it however. He seemed to understand and asked what he could do to help with erosion. He said there are some rocks in there now. I suggested additional rocks might be the best thing as erosion fabrics may not work well for large, intermittent flows as he described. He said at some point they may replace their concrete drive and wondered about breaking up the concrete and placing pieces back there. I told him I thought that was a good idea and a good way to re-use the material but I suggested he talk to his neighbors before doing anything just so they know.
