IU Bus put in contact with sign crews. Crosswalk sign answered.
Other: Some of the crosswalk signs at the crosswalk near Jordan Garage were removed recently, presumably by the city. One of those signs had our bus stop sign on it. Can we have that back? Also, just curious as to why the crosswalk signs were removed since there are several new crosswalks on Jordan Avenue without any signage at all now. Thank you.

You are correct that the City recently removed a number of crosswalk signs in this area. Please coordinate with Mike Stinson, copied on this email, regarding the bus stop sign that was attached to one of the poles. The crosswalk signs were removed for a number of reasons. I'll outline a few thoughts below. We can reevaluate or keep an eye on particular locations as necessary. Please feel free to give me a call for more information. The signs used were not compliant with guidance outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The signs were only installed at some of the crosswalks, while other adjacent crosswalks on Jordan had no signs. Numerous similar signs used in such a short area can decrease the effectiveness of the sign because it no longer stands out (even considering they were only installed at some). In general, we'd like to limit sign use so that it's effective when necessary and to avoid clutter on the street.
