City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Can't Fix #165956

Other:

Other: There are two completely dead trees on the north side of 2nd St. at the corner of Swain and 2nd. The one closest to the corner loses big limbs during storms. Someone is going to get hurt. Last weekend a dead tree broke the rear windshield of a car further up on Swain. Two weeks ago an enormous tree on Swain (corner of E University) collapsed across Swain into Andy Ruff's yard causing a power outage for us in the neighborhood. Someone needs to be policing these dead trees which are major hazards for those of us who walk. I previously reported a dead tree (still dead) behind the house on the south side of 2nd, corner of Swain. Thank you.

Operations director commented on this case regarding the dead trees back when this was reported. Both trees are not city right-of-way trees, they are on private property so we do not remove them.

Ms. Sideli, Thank you for contacting the City of Bloomington. Street trees in the tree plot (grassy area) between the street and sidewalk are under the jurisdiction of the Urban Forester, Lee Huss, in the Parks and Recreation Department. If the tree is on private property, then it's up to the property owner to remove. I will reassign this uReport to the Parks and Recreation Department so Mr. Huss can make the determinate on whether or not it's a city maintained tree. If you would like to speak to Mr. Huss directly, you may contact him at 812.349.3700. Best, Christina Best, Christina
