uReport

City of Bloomington, Indiana

closed: Submission Received #206045

Traffic Suggestions:

Other: Westbound traffic on E Hillside congests at the S Walnut and E Hillside traffic light, which often causes backups and results in traffic blocking the E Hillside and S Washington intersection. Can there be a “do not block intersection” or one of the roadway painted Xs placed at that intersection? This has happened to me numerous times, and I get frustrated and honk, and E Hillside drivers either ignore me, or give me a mean look like this was my fault when they’re blocking the roadway.

Thank you for submitting this uReport and sharing your experience at E Hillside and S Washington. At this time, options such as a “Do Not Block Intersection” sign or a painted intersection box are not recommended. These tools are generally only effective when they can be actively enforced, and the painted box treatment is not a standard MUTCD pavement marking. The City is also working on a corridor wide signal retiming study, which will help improve traffic progression and reduce unnecessary queuing along Hillside. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
