The eastern-most tree on the tree plot in front of my house is dead. The western-most tree on the tree plot(the tree next to the driveway) has many dead branches, and I fear the whole tree may be dying. Can at least the dead tree be removed? It would be good if the dead branches on the other tree could also be cut down. Thank you, Nancy Boerner

Hello from new Bloomington resident; green initiatives 1 message Jane <seejaneread@gmail.com> Mon, Aug 8, 2016 at 11:33 AM To: mayor@bloomington.in.gov Dear Mayor Hamilton, Hello, My name is Jane Cronkhite. I have recently moved to Bloomington. I grew up here and lived in Bloomington from 1980-2000, attending Indiana University from 1996-2000. I returned and am now the Associate Director of the Monroe County Public Library. I am very excited to be back in the city I love with so many wonderful amenities! I have heard many great things about you from other residents and I was just reading about you on the City's web site. I saw you have a background serving the State as Commissioner of Environmental Management, which is fantastic. I've spent my last nine years living in San Jose, California. One thing I've noticed upon my return to Bloomington is while there are some extraordinary green spaces in the City and wonderful parks I plan to take advantage of, I think Bloomington has a way to go with other environmental protective measures. I encourage you to consider an expansion of measures such as a plastic bag ban or a more robust recycling program. I've spoken to several people who tell me they take their recycling in themselves, which I think is an inconvenience. Reading the City's sanitation page, apartments and complexes with more than four buildings do not have bins provided. I am a renter and I do not have bins, and in my few weeks in town, I've seen trash overflowing at my complex. I expect many students who live off campus are not recycling. I think the vast majority of the City's waste that is eligible for recycling is going to landfills, which is a shame. Please consider putting in more green sanitation measures to protect the City. I think residents would pay for services to protect the City; I know I would. Thank you for your consideration, and congratulations on your position serving the City! Best, Jane Cronkhite

Who is responsible for maintaining the city roundabout landscaped areas? The "Renwick" roundabout on Moores Pike is well-maintained on the east, west and south sides. However, on the north side (by the Ridgemede sign) the median strip is full of weeds and vacant of plants. Please respond ... thank you!

Jeff Lowe, property owner at 1303 S. Park St., has had ongoing frustrations with Duke Energy regarding the removal of a tree from his property. He called expressing frustration, so OOTM would be aware of an unhappy Duke Customer. I believe he spoke to Julia yesterday as well.

Lisa Merchant 502.939.6538 called to express concern about homeless/transient population on Kirkwood becoming more assertive and aggressive. Daughter (rising IU junior) works at Pitaya and is approached daily, including being asked outright for her take-out food container yesterday. Lisa called BPD and was told that police hands are tied due to the city's stance on the issue. She said she worries that her daughter will be unsafe while walking to her car after work once it gets dark earlier, and suggests that a reserve BPD officer be available to "walk girls to their cars" after sundown. Just wants to be added to the broader list of concerns about city homeless.

Dear Mayor Hamilton, Thank you for your op-ed piece, “Pistols in the Pool, Machine Guns on Parade and Nothing We Can Do,” published in the NY Times. You message was clear, passionate, and eloquent while posing the crucial question of how to keep our town safe and clarifying how we’ve arrived at these untenable circumstances. Your timing for pointing out Republican Vice President nominee Mike Pence as the source of this situation in particular is appreciated. My husband and I are so glad your message was given this platform. As parents of a son in law enforcement, we were also glad you addressed how hazardous the lack of gun restrictions in Indiana is for police officers. Thank you for taking this stand. Please know you have my support. Sincerely yours, Melissa Keller
