I’m writing to request the completion of unfinished sidewalks and the addition of some crosswalks on the west side of Bloomington. The first is an unfinished stretch of sidewalk along the east side of Curry Pike from Industrial Avenue to the intersection of 2nd St./45. The sidewalk dead-ends before reaching the intersection, and there is no crosswalk at the intersection to allow pedestrians to cross safely from the north side of 2nd St./45 to the south side, or vice versa. The second is a stretch of sidewalk along the north side of 2nd St. from Liberty Drive to Industrial Avenue. This sidewalk is overgrown and near unusable and dead-ends before reaching Industrial Avenue. Moreover, the intersection at Liberty Drive and 2nd St. has a crosswalk on only the north side (going east-west) and does not allow pedestrians to cross safely from the south to north side of 2nd St., or vice versa. Lastly, the sidewalk on the west side of Curry Pike does not connect between Lamplighter Mall Ct. and Glen Oaks Drive, and connecting these stretches of sidewalk would provide better access to 3rd street and the neighborhoods along Curry Pike. It would be much appreciated if the city could complete these stretches of sidewalk and make the area more walkable for those of us who do not have other modes of transportation or who simply prefer to walk the shorter distances to reach businesses and services that are close to home. I would like more sidewalks to be installed in my neighborhood so it is safe for my dogs and I to walk in our neighborhood. We have to walk in the street and pull off to someone’s yard when cars come.

The city or a utility installed a new sidewalk. There are multiple pieces of rebar sticking straight up about eight inches on each side. The sidewall is marked with two orange construction cones. I presume the workers will be back at some point, but I don’t know when. Halloween brings a lot of foot traffic in this neighborhood, and I think folks may ignore the cones. It would be greatly appreciated if the rebar could be trimmed or otherwise handled before then. Thank you.

I would love to see a proper crosswalk and sidewalks added at all sides of the Rogers and Rockport intersection. I would also like to request a completed sidewalk added to the east side of Rogers between Rockport and the Switchyard Park entrance. Families from Rockport Hills and the surrounding neighborhoods often walk over to Switchyard Park and I personally have had and witnessed numerous close calls attempting to cross Rogers to enter Switchyard Park on foot. It would be great to have some sort of crosswalk added at the Switchyard entrance to aid those on foot trying to cross Rogers and enter the park. During larger events when the park parking lot fills up, there is overflow parking in the field in front of Catalent. Then a huge flow of people are forced to wait for traffic in order to essentially jaywalk into the park. It seems to me that some infrastructure improvements are needed for this area of Rogers St. to facilitate the main entrance to one of the largest parks in the city. Finally, I think it would be great to have some sort of high retaining wall built around the massive eye-sore electrical transfer station directly across from the park entrance (similar to the one built right next to the Upland Woodshop). We purchased this property in 2007. In 2002 this property had been subdivided and there was a bond for required sidewalks on the property. On July 25, 2012, we turned over the funds from the bond to the City of Bloomington in the amount of $10,690. Since that time, there have been no sidewalks installed. IF sidewalks are REQUIRED when a property is subdivided, what is a REASONABLE amount of time to wait for installation? In the meantime the City just sits on that money? I would appreciate some answers and insight to these REQUIRED sidewalks. Thank you.

At the corner of Valley Blvd and Cedar Ave, there is a landscaped area with a large sign that says City of Bloomington Welcome, with benches and a tribute to the high school class of 2020. The plants that were put there as part of the landscaping are DEAD OR DYING. There is garbage everywhere. There is a shopping cart filled with trash and filthy blankets. There is an ad for repossessed houses real cheap on metal stakes stuck into the landscaped area. Can you water the plants? Remove the garbage? Maintain it a little bit? It looks like an urban wasteland and is not a fitting tribute to the high school class that just graduated nor to the "City of Bloomington". It looks terrible. How hard is it to water and pick up the garbage twice a month? Also, along Cedar Avenue from there going, I guess, north toward the Fontana Courthouse on Arrowhead, visible along the entire way are usually mattresses, couches, refrigerators, today a poor little dead PUPPY in the middle of the road, GARBAGE everywhere, dead tumbleweeds on the sidewalks, broken baby strollers, automobile SEATS apparently removed from the interior of the car, blown tires for, apparently, big rig trucks. I dont know, the tires are so huge they look like truck tires. We see this detritus EVERY SINGLE DAY for months on end. How are you not aware of it? if you are employed to maintain the streets, maintain them. And please don't tell me it's not your jurisdiction. Just pass this on to whomever has jurisdiction over the aforementioned areas. People are trying to walk on these streets, especially in the early morning, trying to get some exercise. Should children have to grow accustomed to this kind of urban landscape, to think that this is the best it can be here? PLEASE WATER THE PLANTS that were put in the little landscape by the freeway. Or else take them out and give them away. Thank you.
