The BMCMPO received the following message/question from Mr. Sam Melchior (dsamuelm375@gmail.com) who asked the following: "Hi, I was wondering if there is any consideration of geo fencing the IU campus and downtown to control the dangerous use of e scooters. They are terribly dangerous and do not provide the safe eco friendly transportation advertised. Sam, a concerned citizen " We would ask that someone respond to Mr. Melchior regarding the geofencing of scooters within the City of Bloomington. I have contacted the city of Bloomington and Indiana University concerning electric scooters and bikes predominately used by IU students. The scooters especially are extremely dangerous as and a hazard to all other forms of transportation including pedestrians. There is also one specific e bike which is privately owned and used by a driver in all black clothing usually while riding in the Bloomington Rail Trail at least going 30 mph or more. To get rider has no regard for others and risks harm to many elderly, children and families who use the trail. This person should not be allowed on the trail. I have been to several other communities who have restricted use of these hazardous vehicles through the use of geo-fencing, security and other methods. 2 VEO scooters blocking the sidewalk in the 700 block of Eastside Drive on Sunday morning, November 6. This is a major pedestrian thoroughfare. Ban those monsters!

I was employed for two weeks moving scooters from sidewalks and parking spots. I am being refused to get paid for the amount of time that I worked. What do I need to do to receive my paycheck? Thank you for your help.

Bike racks should only be allowed for bikes and other personal transports that need to be locked up. Scooters owned by those companies do not need to be locked up, and yet people park them on bike racks, taking up valuable bike parking space with heavy scooters that are nearly impossible to move without knocking them over and push them around, since the wheels don't seem to move unless you've downloaded the app and paid to move that scooter. Can you please put a sign at all bike racks saying that scooters etc that aren't personally owned cannot be parked there? Today as I was on the Bline at Kirkwood, a whole bike rack of at least 8 racks was fully taken up by those stupid electric scooters, as if someone took them home to charge them and just lined them up there. Even though they don't need to be locked up! If these thigns are going to continue to exist, there needs to be a separate parking situation set up for them, because they're equally in the way when people just leave them in the middle of the sidewalk.
