Street & Traffic Signs

Thank you for the all-way stop controls at the Fairview/11th intersection south/east of the railway! This has been a huge improvement to the intersection. Can we get a marked crosswalk just south/east of the railway bridge to cross from the north corner to the east corner (as shown on my laughably cartoony mark-up)? I know that this intersection has been considered recently, so there may be a reason why a marked crosswalk was not recommended. But if there is not a good reason, a marked crosswalk here would be so helpful.

North Dr & S Henderson St, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA
- Case Date:
- 5/18/2022
The Bloomington traffic database reports 5 multivehicle accidents at North and Henderson in 2018 and 2019, all of them shortly before the 8AM start of class or after the 3PM end of class at BHSS. None were reported for 2020 when BHSS was online for most of the year.
NO accidents are reported on the neighboring intersections of Henderson and E Miller, or Henderson and E South Rd, both of which have stop signs.
To anyone who drives there, this is a much more dangerous intersection than the majority of intersections where 4-way stop signs have been installed. Indeed when one first uses the intersection one expects 4-way stop signs based on the usual Bloomington pattern for roads with prominent crosswalks, which makes the absence even more dangerous.
Please fix this before my daughters start driving to high school next year. I'd prefer they walk but that intersection is even more dangerous for pedestrians.
Street & Traffic Signs
Rogers St & 10th St at the B Line Trail, Bloomington, IN 47404, USA

This pedestrian intersection of the B-line and rogers NEEDS A STOP SIGN FOR TRAFFIC! I have been hit by a car here once already, and have been nearly hit several times after that, despite wearing high-vis safety gear and having 6 total lights(including in-rim wheel lights for side visablitiy). I see cars fly through this cross walk at full speed, everyday. I cycle to work every day as well, and often cross here. The angle at which the intersection happens makes it hard for cars to see if bikes or pedestrians are coming from certain directions. There are currently only 2 stop signs on the entire B-line trail where cars MUST stop for pedestrians(which is a clear safety oversight for a town claiming to be bike friendly), and this spot absolutely needs one as well. ALSO, speaking of stop signs on the B-line, you should place an undercover traffic cop at the intersection of the B-line and 7th where there is an actual stop sign, and you'll be ticketing every other person since they nearly all do rolling "stops" at this cross walk. I nearly got hit by a huge black SUV last week and had to yell at the dumb cunt driving who didn't stop at all and just drove right through the crosswalk with me rapidly approaching, all my lights on, high-vis motorcycle helmet and everything, she sees me and just keeps going... seriously, I have no doubt in my mind that if you had an officer watching that intersection they'd get their ticket quota in a day, easy. It's time Bloomington puts its money where its mouth is and does something about the safety of the B-line crosswalks.

The intersection of Henderson St and North Dr lacks a stop sign. It is the main exit for BHSS and is extremely dangerous. Cars are moving quite fast on Henderson, there are high school students crossing there, and there the high school is full of new drivers. As an experienced driver I can say it is the most dangerous intersection I have regularly gone through. And in front of a high school! Bloomington is full of 4 way stop signs everywhere. Why this strange exception where one is really, really needed?
Street & Traffic Signs
S Mitchell St & E 3rd St, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA
- Case Date:
- 10/25/2021
The white traffic pylons were installed in such a way that there is now only one lane, with oncoming traffic, to turn into. This makes the intersection more dangerous, and I have seen several near-accidents there because there used to be a second west-bound lane to turn onto from Mitchell. Surely this was a mistake--the pylons could have been installed in such a way as to guarantee immediate access to Third St. from Mitchell, with no chance of a merging accident, and allowing merging further west.

I think the new construction on Sare Road is making the road very narrow, maybe even narrower than the walking path being put in. Does the new, narrowed road meet the width requirements of the Master Thoroughfare Plan? It seems like it is not wide enough, and should be checked. Thank you.

People are blowing through this 4 way stop from all directions! This has always been an issue, but even more so from where the road has been closed for so long. There are many residents and pedestrians that cross here which makes it a very unsafe situation. Rumble strips or a temporary flashing stop sign might remind people that they need to stop here!

I feel that there should be a "No Turn on Red" sign at this intersection. When you travel east on 2nd Street and come to the light at Patterson, you cannot see to make a right turn (south) onto Patterson because of a wall on the northwest corner. In order to see, you have to enter half-way into the southbound lane of Patterson.
