Subject: Street Light Request: W. 11th St. (Between Marathon Gas Station & N. Adams St.) Location Details: * Street: W. 11th St. * Specific Segment: Between the gas station and the N. Adams Street intersection. * Preferred Placement: The north side of W. 11th St., adjacent to the apartment complex buildings. Request Details: I am writing to formally request the installation of a new street light along this specific stretch of W. 11th Street. Currently, this section of the road and sidewalk is pitch black during non-daylight hours. There is extremely poor visibility, making it highly unsafe for pedestrians. I walk this route early in the morning and am unable to see the sidewalk ahead of me or perceive if anyone is nearby, which creates a significant safety risk. Furthermore, the lack of lighting will pose an extra hazard during the winter months, as it will be impossible to spot black ice or snow accumulation on the walkway. Improved lighting here is urgently needed to ensure basic pedestrian safety and visibility. Thank you for your time and for reviewing this request to keep our neighborhood walkways safe. The large street light near the parking at 514 W Kirkwood is out and the tenants would like it in working order for safety. Not sure whom it responsible for this light? Any help would be wonderful.

Is there a place to request NO new street lights? Or to oppose requests for new and "improved" lighting? There is plenty of evidence that night lighting is harmful, to humans and to animals. There is also evidence that lighting does not reduce crimes. I don't live in a "bright" area of the city, and yet light is all around me at night, including creeping into my house and bedroom even though I have room darkening drapes. I want nighttime and stars back. I can't be the only one, and yet it seems that procedures are set up to favor increased lighting and profits for Duke.
