Blocked Street
- Case Date:
- 6/12/2014
I do a lot of walking for exercise. I have noticed that many homeowners are allowing trees and bushes to grow over sidewalks. Can you help it getting foliage cut back?

Apartment building (Hyatt Place) construction on S. 4th Street between College and Madison has been frequently blocking traffic or limiting it to one lane near the B-Line for the past 8-12 months. There is rarely anybody directing traffic (and if there is, it is usually a construction worker who only sometimes has a handheld stop sign). Construction vehicles often dart out into the street during high traffic times (morning and evening work rushes) and block entrance to nearby apartment buildings. Furthermore, lack of barricades or proper containment causes debris, shrapnel, and other detritus to spill into the street from construction vehicles and dumpsters, often causing hazardous conditions for drivers and vehicles. My own vehicle was recently damaged by stray debris (which was impossible to avoid) and may even be totaled as a result. This also creates dangerous conditions for pedestrians on the sidewalks and makes it impossible for pedestrians on the B-Line to see oncoming traffic before crossing 4th street.
There is a lot of growth on the south side of the alley behind 1412 S Walnut, making it difficult to get in and out of the parking behind the houses from there south to Hillside.
Tree fell across Nota Sidewalk connecting Maxwell.
Paula McDevitt (Parks Dept. 349-3713) talked to Mr. Smith and filed a u report in regards to the department bus not having enough room to turn around on his street (Mr. Smith lives at 1411 W. 17th St)He described a barricade up due to street construction with signage saying closed to through traffic. He said people are still going through the barricade and his street dead ends. There is no room for people to turn around. He has witness numerous cars, SUV's and our bus turning around. He said it has become to unsafe for his grandchildren to play in his front yard. He is requested an addition sign be posted that says No Outlet at the end of his street or on the barricade.
Large piles of trash blocking sidewalks in front of 706 and 703 N Washington Street (both sides of street).
The public sidepath between Southdowns and Greenwood Avenue is blocked by overgrown plants. This is a walk-to-school route, used by people with strollers and at least one person in a wheelchair. Walkers are currently trampling the adjacent yard in order to avoid the plants. The plants are growing from the garden of Mr. Sagarin, who you may remember sued the council over the path, so I hesitate to contact him directly. Please resolve this urgently. Thank you. David Stringer (Rogers/Binford Safe Routes to School Committee).
Earlier tonight a tree fell down over the bridge at Lake Griffy, blocking both lanes of traffic. A few of us motorists got out and pushed it over the guardrail to clear the road. It occurs to me that now it's possible for that tree to roll down on to boaters (although I think it's still partly attached at the base). You might want to check it out though, and also possibly the guardrail sections on both sides. It's on the side closest to the boat house.
A huge tree branch fell from a city tree in front of 1025 E 1st st. The tree really needs to be removed.
The address is approximate. Railroad ties, 2x4's and what looks like a dog lead is blocking a street giving a lack of access for residents to the access way for Rockport Rd. from the corresponding neighborhood in which the access was erected, where as the apartments of Dorthy were annexed, or derived from the corresponding neighborhood. There is not consistent on sight property management for 2304 South Rogers Street. Dorthy Apartments claim to own the street that is blocked, which city planning documents I control or possess show otherwise. I am concerned that this is a gang-related incident in which will have numerous crimes attached. This is a public area because of the sidewalks, area developments, and subjection people are to encounter.
