Good Morning! I'm writing concerning the intersection of the BLine Trail and Rogers St. I'm so very grateful for the new speed bump and warning signage that was added recently. It has really made a positive impact on the communication between all humans who cross that intersection whether they are in cars, on bikes, or on foot. I'm asking that some of the confusing signage that now exists be addressed and potentially have a blinking yellow crosswalk system added just like what was added at 4th St. and Rogers. When walking on the BLine trail, there are stop signs saying that cross traffic does not stop thus pedestrians assume cars won't stop. That is accurate. On Rogers, their are yellow warning signs that people may be in the crosswalk and most cars want to stop and let people cross. This creates some confusion as each entrance to the intersection people are expecting the others to not stop. Then there are cars who don't stop and just fly over the speed bump which adds to the confusion. I believe the addition of flashing yellow blinking bright lights that are initiated by the pedestrians crossing on the BLine trail would provide much more obvious and direct communication to the cars creating a safer crossing area. Please install the flashing yellow cross walk lighting like you did on 4th and Rogers at this intersection. Gratefully!

While you likely know that the new retaining wall on the SE corner of this intersection has collapsed due to flooding, you should note that there is a huge sink hole next to the storm drain on the SW corner of the intersection, in the grass. We placed some stakes around the sink hole to draw attention to its location. My other concern is that the culvert under High St may have been damaged (or now susceptible to further damage) but may not be easily noticed. An engineer should check it out, it's a dangerous situation overall.

Potholes, Other Street Repair

2105 E Queens WAY

Last night (Friday, 19 June), I removed several mats covering drains on Queens Way at High St, just south of Wimbleton on High St, and on Arden near High St. They are part of the Jackson creek Trail Phase II project - but given the immense rain, they were causing dangerous street flooding (several feet high). They will need replacing.

521 W Kirkwood AVE

There are tall orange cones in front of 521 W. Kirkwood & pink paint marking the lawn & sidewalk. Same set-up across the street. If the city is planning to dig up something--pipes, et, will this affect where the BL Transit can pickup & drop passengers? I catch the bus in front of 521 to go to work. Thanks.

Trails

I'm very excited to see the new High Street multi path finally being developed, however I do have 2 concerns about the project. First, access for our Sycamore Knolls neighborhood into the Jackson Creek Trail has been effectively cut off during construction, and there is really no safe way to bike to the trail with small children unless you ride on High Street. Better consideration should have been given to maintain pedestrian access after removing the existing sidewalk on High Street. Second, it is disappointing that the trail will end at Arden. It would have been nice to see in continue north for another half mile to Marilyn/Covenanter, and connect into the existing Covenanter Greenway. That would have greatly expanding access for the Southeast side of town towards the B-Line trail utilizing this existing greenway.

I don't think 10th really needs expanded but if you do that recommendation make sure a signal goes in at 10th and Smith. It's already dangerous there turning left from Smith. Right turners squeeze by and obstruct view. Left turn protections and flow needs improved both at 10th and Smith and Third and Smith

Blocked Street

Rogers St and 10th St at the B Line Trail, Bloomington, IN 47404, USA

On May 23, 2021, at 5:30 am I was driving south on N Rogers to deliver my brother to Bloomington Hospital for surgery. At about 9th street (at the B line trail) I ran directly into a curb that juts out into the road. It was dark out and raining, and this road obstruction was poorly lit and not marked with a reflector ot in any other way. I ruined an almost new tire and will surely need an alignment. We walked the rest of the way to the hospital, in the dark and rain, because we couldn’t get a cab and time was short. Going back in the daylight I see that the southbound lane makes a jog to the center to accommodate this jutting out curb. Going south the right most lane becomes a parking lane, but there were no cars at all parked there so this was not apparent when approaching from the north. In the daylight this configuration is easy to see, but not in the dark and rain. I’ve enclosed a photo taken from in front of Carpenter Realty showing how dramatically this curb juts out into the road. I have other photos that I will try to send separately. (I think this report is limited to one photo. ) Two of my photos show show that the jutting out curb is blackened from tires and scared from wheel rims that preceded me into this trap. If I had a tire store I would open a branch in the big parking lot just south of Carpenter and stay open through the night. Besides reconfiguring this lane transition there are several easy solutions: - Light this curb better. - Put a reflector on it. - use a “ramp” or “transition” curb, as we see at all the new roundabouts.
