Fire Hazards
455 N College AVE
- Case Date:
- 2/10/2022
The Avenue refuses to fix their faulty fire alarm system and may be abusing it. Residents do not know if the alarms are real or not. This is resulting in people staying in their apartments when the alarm goes off. This is extremely dangerous and people’s lives may be at stake.
The Avenue is solely responsible for this mess

This apartment complex refuses to update their fire alarms. Residents are forced to wake up at 2 AM only to have a false alarm.
Lazy management refuses to fix it.

While living at Terra Trace (321 E. 14th St) from 2020-2022 there were a lot of problems but one that should absolutely not be dismissed. I am disappointed that no one seems to realize the seriousness of this.
On Aug 17, 2021, my neighbors set their stove on fire. Once I noticed the smoke smell, I went to the hallway to see what was going on and my neighbor explained what happened. They didn't know what to do so I pulled the fire alarm and it did not go off. I had to alert everyone by knocking on their doors to let them know the building wasn't safe and we needed to get out.
I was told my claim was false and inaccurate. After some minor internet searches, I found that there was a fire here in 2011 (if I remember correctly) that killed a student. After finding this out, I knew I had to do more. I feel as if this apartment complex needs to be reevaluated for safety of the residents still living there.
I will also be willing to provide more information, videos, etc about this incident. Thank you!

This building is missing and has damaged emergency exit signs throughout the complex. Exposed live wires and light fixtures are rampant. The building's emergency system has been beeping an alarm for over two weeks.

Attempted to contact Center Point but had no luck. The gas shutoff valve in front of Inkwell has its handle not secured by a padlock. Needs to be secured before someone decides to play with it.

We recently moved in, and there is a cable (perhaps carrying power) that is wrapped around the tree in front of our house using a wire hanger. None of the utility companies we've contacted want to take responsibility for it. How do we determine the owner and get it removed?

Yet again tonight I could not sit on my porch because of the hazy of toxic smoke in The Near West side neighborhood. This has been an ongoing issue for the last year and a half at least. Someone is burning trash or plastic on the other side of the rail lines on empty property to the north of the B-line between Adams and where 8th St ends next to White Oak cemetery. The smoke drifts across the neighborhood. I know a neighbor reported it on Saturday night and the police went to check the site out. But it also happened Sunday and tonight. What can be done about it? Such unhealthy air.

There is a hydrant with a big mound of dirt adjacent to it and snow fencing surrounding it completely. This is at 9th and Fairview. This seems like a hazard. It looks to be part of the city’s fiber projectI

Neighbor appears to be burning trash in am once per week. Thank you.

Neighborhood residents near the White Oak Cemetery and the Westside Cemetery have been experiencing toxic smoke from the hazardous fires taking place in the encampments between Butler Park and N Adams St. The residents believe that the individuals in this encampment are either burning plastic trash, plastic coating of stripped wire, or potentially cooking meth. Residents have reported this issue previously through a uReport, but the fire hazards were not addressed.
To get to the encampment you can enter from the B-line along N. Adams St., next go right at the end of the mesh wire fence (near B-line light post #183), then cross the railroad tracks (heading south), and you will find the well worn trail to the encampment.
