I moved into the edge of elm heights this past August. I grew up in Bloomington and never thought I’d be able to afford a home near Harmony, in this area, but the couple who sold our house wanted a family who would respect the integrity of the historic area and luckily, my parents invested in my moving here as well. I have two very young children and am a stay at home parent. I did not know when we bought our home that an unlicensed frat is behind us. When they party (which is fine-it is a college town) I don’t feel comfortable letting my children play in our backyard. It smells like beer, they and their guests yell over the din of their music and I don’t trust them not to toss beer cans in the yard (which they have). It saddens me that the current administration is not protecting families like mine from being priced out of beautiful neighborhoods. That all the old homes near me are rentals for students-not priced for anyone else mind you-and that changes to zoning may make this even more oppressive. Please do not allow single family zoning to change my hometown and now the hometown of my children. Let families like mine be able to live in real Bloomington neighborhoods and not pushed out to suburban dwellings and condos. We are the residents that stay and build this town and keep it going. The university students will come and go. I am a Bloomerang and maybe there would be more if others could afford to live in neighborhoods they grew up admiring.

Hi, not sure what category this goes into...at the corner of Woodlawn & Southdowns, southeast corner, there's a big culvert on the east side, and this was blocked by leaves. When I walked by this morning the ditch was 4' deep full of water and spilling over the road; on my way back a guy & his dog were trying to clear out some of the leaves. Seems like a simple leaf-rake-shovel will free that up. Kevin Pilgrim cell 812 361 7181

On going problem at 1000 and 1002 East Atwater. Yard, front walkway, side yard and parking lot in back has beer cans, cups, trash and debris that neither the tenants nor the property owner clean up. The neighbors are tired of picking up trash from these properties.

Trash in back yard, around dumpster, alley. Beer cans in front yard.

The property at 1000 E Atwater Ave (currently operating as an illegally zoned fraternity) is also apparently being used as a public urinal. I have seen three separate individuals urinating on the wall of the house that faces our driveway. As tax paying home owners, we would prefer. to see this (or to deal with associated health hazards). Is this not a ticketable offense - public intoxication and/or indecency? Please take action. On behalf of the entire neighborhood of Elm heights, please take action. Thank you.

Blue tarps are up again between 1000 and 1002 Atwater both across the front and back of these houses.

We are so tired of the on-going issues with the tenants of these properties and the owner who condones this use of his property. Blue party tarps are down, laying in yard. The tenants put these up in the evening and remove them before city personal can see them on Monday morning. Almost daily there are cars parked in the public alley behind the houses. Trash, beer cans, cups and other debris are an ever-present problem. We appreciate the city's effort in noting these issues, but nothing has happened to resolve these problem properties.
