We hope these comments will fall on fertile ground resolving a vacant feeling at the Farmer's Market. For many years, Medicare for All Indiana Bloomington, formerly known as Hoosiers for a Commonsense Health Plan, has had a booth in Information Alley, paying ahead for the whole season. Our booth has been well attended by market patrons by having many deep and important conversations about healthcare with people who live in the Bloomington area, other regions around Indiana, the US, and indeed, international students and visitors. COVID restricted our being at the market. Last year, the days the market was open for Information Alley, it frequently rained, so we cancelled several times. Today was our first day back for 2023. Information Alley felt like a ghost town. No food vendors and only two other booths, the Dems and the ballet students. What was missing was the spirit of a bustling market with people buying bread, coffee, tea, pastries, savory eggs and tamales. When we asked about the empty food area, we were told that it's the vendor fees keeping vendors out. We've been hearing this for many years. The popularity of the food vendors goes hand in hand with the market growers. Market growers we spoke with this morning expressed the same attitude. Each group, the food vendors and market growers, support the other in bringing people to the market. If in fact, it's the fee, then we believe that the decision is penny wise and pound foolish from what we witnessed today. The market is dull without the bustling food vendor area. The identity of Bloomington having a thriving farmers market is an asset to the entire community. We're curious just how much money is involved with fees for the food vendors. Are they being asked to subsidize the market without setting up in the heart of the market with covered space? How much do the total fees collected from food vendors add to the Parks and Recreation budget? And is the fee worth the alienation of food vendors in the long run? We look forward to hearing your response.

The park ridge east baseball field is in need of repair. Request the infield be groomed and holes filled in. Water pools at the home plate. The backstop fence also needs to be secured so that balls cannot roll under it and into the street.

A pet waste station is desperately needed at the intersection of Moravec Way and the B-Line. There are piles of uncollected pet waste all along the trail in this area, which I often step in while performing my Adopt-a-Greenspace duties. I suspect that folks would be more willing to bag up their pet's waste if there was a convenient disposal option here.
Drainage or Runoff

As can be seen in the photo there are three dry creek beds (swales) feeding the area where the runoff water is pooling during a heavy rain fall. Cause of the pooling is the drain through a small ridge is eroded and clogged up. City needs to remedy this issue.

Park Ridge Park Sign needs a refresh:
As you see in the photo, the park signs needs cleaning and repainting. It also has a large hole from either a woodpecker or a bullet. In-person or focus in on the photo and you can see how the sign has deteriorated from the weather. Maybe even a new sign if the budget allows. Much appreciated!

Hello -- Steve Akers here in the Park Ridge neighborhood. I have some items to bring to your attention regarding the Park Ridge park. Most are pretty obvious in terms of regular park maintenance and other points are from our stewardship observation as park users and close by residents. Please read through these points and be sure they are part of the on-going maintenance as we get closer to Spring, thanks.
- Mowing: the contractor you have subbed out the mowing to is mowing whether it needs it or not. This has been the case for the past year. The result is literally no grass. Granted the park is heavily used including a nearby daycare visiting 2-3 times per week. With this what we believe is excessive mowing, the leaves are ground to a power and the grass is till. Granted it's quite shady - but please manage the mowing service and please for a pretty aggressive seeding and fertilizing. The park is now just dirt so users have to clean their shoes after use, etc.
- Wood chips - regular maintenance. A good dose of chips are needed after a winter season use.
- Powerwashing: the equipment is in decent shape and not too dirty but a good power washing of all equipment would be great before the spring/summer season.
- Erosion: this issue is most noticeable in two locations. The hill to the south and the hill area beside the bike/ped path. With improved mowing and seeding, these areas may recover. But they do need some soil and minor leveling.
- Canopy: it's still an awesome upgrade but does need power washing/cleaning, or possible replacement.
We look forward to the park transitioning from winter to spring. The grill will hopefully be unsecured (the homeless have moved on) and the water fountain will be turned back on.
I am happy to meet you or any staff at the site to discuss my items.
One additional item: the Park Ambassador program does not include our park. I made an inquiry when the program began and was told the Park Ridge park was not part of the program. Would you reconsider? I know of neighbors who are willing to be named the Park Ambassador.
Thanks!

Large branch has broken off maple tree at NW corner of 7th and Maple and is hanging precariously. High winds this afternoon and evening could cause it to injure someone. Hard to see in my photo but it is definitely broken off.
