There is a walk way from Cascades Addition from near 651 Skyline Drive that goes into the Arlington Elementary School yard. I have tried but never have been able to find out who (school or city) is responsible for it. I think the school has cleared it out every year before school starts. Children from the neighborhood walk to school that way and people walk to Kroger or to the walking path and frisbee golf course at Arlington. Right now it is really overgrown and some people have come racing their bicycles and scooters out of it and almost hit us twice (they were young adults). There used to be posts on it so no one could do that or try to drive on it! Picture is From Skyline Dr. looking up (see cut off post). I think the posts need to be put back up and it definitely needs to be cleared on both sides of path from overgrowth.

The City needs to find a better way to keep the 7th Street bike path clear for cyclists. On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, around 9:25pm I was biking with a group of cyclists. We were headed east on 7th Street in the bike lane. As we crossed College and headed towards Walnut, every single cyclist had to exit the bike lane and ride in the lanes of traffic because a pickup truck was going in reverse down the bike lane. The truck had its white backup lights on and was moving from Walnut back towards College, fully in the bicycle lane blocking both lanes of bicycle travel. This is classic Bloomington infrastructure. Poorly designed, used incorrectly, and the people it is meant to benefit are no better off.

Again, I ask for speed bumps. Traffic count doesn't matter. Renters, a shortcut mentality, and the fact that we DO NOT HAVE SIDEWALKS are the problem. I work from home now and take frequent walks, as do my neighbors. PLEASE help us! Thank you.

The intersection of Pete Ellis Dr./Discovery Parkway and 10th Street is used by residents of numerous apartment complexes, bus riders, and community members accessing the post office and the greenway that goes along 10th St. The intersection is necessary for access to Indiana University from Woodbridge and Fountain Park Apartments, which hosts many graduate students. However, there is no crosswalk, pedestrian lights, or sidewalk platforms to allow for safe crossing along this very busy intersection. Additionally, the traffic lights are not able to be seen from the four corners of the intersection, forcing pedestrians to make an educated guess on when to cross. In short, the intersection is dangerous and near impossible to cross. Would it be at all possible in the future to include a) a crosswalk b) a pedestrian crosswalk light c) sidewalk cutout/curb ramps on the two corners in which there is not one currently? The lack of 4 way stops on 7th near Dunn is a severe hazard, resulting in several accidents. This is an extreme hazard for cyclists. Can someone from the city pedestrian and bicycle commission contact me about it. I would like to add it to the agenda at the next meeting in November.

This street is part of the 7 line and yet doesn’t have any traffic demarcation. Needs lane/yellow lines and white bike symbols. This was needed 4 years ago. They are completely gone now leading people to believe it is a one way street. This street (all of 7th, on campus) is part of the city’s green initiative and alternative transportation effort. thanks!

I am a parent of a student living at Union Street Center Apartments. I have been observing this area for some time and feel there is a safety risk for pedestrians crossing from a parking lot to the Apartments. I have addressed this with the University and they said this had been passed on to Bloomington official and I never heard back from the city. They said its not their property and the City of Bloomington would need to address. I have tried emailing another official and again have not heard back. The issue is N. Union Street needs 2 Crosswalks at each end of the parking lot, with Yellow Flashing Warning Signs in each direction. In addition, the lighting is poor in that area, again increasing the risk at night. The Risk Analysis would show there is a high risk of Severity, Frequency, and Probability for an accident in this area. Cars traveling from 10th street to 3rd as a cut through are traveling down hill and pick momentum or speed. I would be happy to discuss this issue with anyone who will listen, so we all fully understand the issue.
