Debris Removal (Sand, General Street Debris)

212-398 N Smith Rd, Bloomington, Indiana, 47408

Case Date:
11/6/2019

On Smith Rd. between Morningside Drive and the railroad overpass, there is lots of debris along the road, there were sandbags that were put out around the drains which have since then broken up and laying there probably preventing water from going down the drain. The weeds along the sidewalks on both sides need weedwhipped. It's very unsightly. Thanks.

We have substantial concerns with potential Greenway roadblocks City Council we heard were proposing to how it may impact Park Ridge East and our Greenway? We were told after years of advocacy that we were finally getting calming to East Morningside (this being typed as a racer just roared their engine on that road). We want to make sure planning is still moving forward in 2023 for the Greenway improvements, with improvement construction to follow in early 2024?

Not sure how to lodge opposition but heard Curry is wanting to build self-storage at 4600 Morningside. Total waste of a valuable piece of property on a Greenway. That East/West Greenway should be places people want to bike and walk to, not a wasteful self storage area that will be all vehicular traffic. Not to mention it's in a residential neighborhood and there is not a traffic light there and it will be THREE stories of nothing but storage? We can do better, Bloomington. If the City can reject for any reason please do so.

Dear city, I would like to send sincere appreciation for Hank Duncan of the city Pedestrian and Cycling department. He is highly creative and a real pleasure to work with - and is a true asset to the city for his willingness to be a partner in city bike safety. Thank you, Hank - and well done! Concerned with east side development being neglected. Lots of housing but collapse of business and retail. Next up no taco bell or kfc. Joellas closed. And we're getting junk storage and car washes. Please put attention into ensuring east side doesn't turn into a low utility housing suburb. Pay attention and actively plan.

1206 S Woodlawn AVE

Case Date:
9/10/2022

I am requesting that a speed bump and a flashing speed indicator be installed in a location along W Woodlawn Ave, somewhere between S Weatherstone Ln and E Wilson St. The speed limit on S Woodlawn Ave is 25 MPH, but the average vehicle's speed in front of my approximate address is closer to 45 MPH, with many vehicles regularly reaching speeds over 60 MPH and even 80 MPH at least daily. The reason why the speed limit is 25 MPH on S Woodlawn Ave is because of its proximity to Indiana University foot and bike commuters, Bryan Park, the Bryan Park Pool, a bus stop, and Union Elementary School. In addition to these elements, S Woodlawn Ave is also hilly which contributes to dangers associated with limited lines of sight between vehicles and pedestrians. Being a thoroughfare between Hillside Ave and streets north of it, traffic naturally flows faster than 25 MPH especially with the only stop sign between 1st St and Hillside Ave being at Sheridan Ave. Drivers frequently “floor” their vehicles through S Woodlawn Ave, and the police speed enforcement seems to never pull anyone over for speeding. For the above reasons, the current traffic pattern on S Woodlawn Ave is incompatible with its intended use. Installing a speed bump and a flashing speed indicator (for both northbound and southbound traffic) will hopefully greatly reduce thoroughfare excessive speeds. I am worried that this is a formula for someone to get hurt and it is only a matter of time unless the City does something about this. Please at least conduct a traffic study. Thank you for receiving my note, and I will be following up on this.

Park Ridge East's traffic calming signs acquired through HAND have been destroyed repeatedly. Greenway improvements are to take place 2024 we are told? But any shortening of that timeline would be greatly appreciated. There is high speed, cut-through traffic, and people who desperately need something more than a plastic sign to convince them to drive safely.

Walkers need a pedestrian crossing signal and equally important, Pete Ellis road to hospital must complete its sidewalk all the way to this intersection. We walk to the hospital and here must walk in the street, where employees and patients sometimes race home to 10th St., not expecting walkers in the street. Help! It may be IU property that needs the sidewalk. Please muscle them to do so. Thank you!

Hello. If there is a better way to provide input please let the neighborhood know but we learned that self storage is going into Park Ridge East on Morningside. The industry is low-income predatory and operates on a model that intends for low engagement. This is the opposite for what should be at the intersection of a Greenway (Longview) and a major road (3rd). Surely there are more industrial locations for the city suited for such a business. It is not true commerce (which would be awesome in that area) but is "set it and forget it" investing. Ugly, wasteful, and most importantly the wrong choice for the location. Definitely build something, but something that people will regularly access and use.
