It has come to my attention that Indiana University is still in the year of 2022 burning coal to generate steam for heating, cooling, and processes, such as cooking or for research uses. As of 2019, the university stated on their website that they were burning 60,000 tons of coal each year, but currently there is no mention on the Facility Operation's website of coal. A quick phone call confirmed they are still burning coal but they declined to share how much they are burning. The residents of Bloomington and the surrounding areas, as well as those who work in Bloomington, are being exposed to that dirty, toxic pollution. Are there any plans to address that source of pollution being generated within the city limits of Bloomington? In the Climate Action Plan there is mention of Duke Energy's lingering archaic dependence on coal, but no mention of what IU is doing. So what is the plan? Thank you.

Dave’s Hot Chicken blares music and PA announcements very loudly, audible more than half of a block away. You can’t carry on a conversation while passing the restaurant. This seems to be a violation of the city’s noise ordinance. Please enforce it. Thank you.

Hello! I live in the Mercury apartments, and across the street is a piano. Im not sure if this is a government funded project or from a private organization, but it seems that people play it at all hours of the night, and it can be heard clearly into my apartment. Lately it has become very disturbing when I’m trying to sleep. It sits outside Nourish Bar, and has also accrued a lot of trash. I can imagine my neighbors on this part of 6th street are also not happy with it. I was told it was a project from the elementary schoolers, so I thought the city may know who to contact on trying to get it removed or moved. Because it happens intermittently through the night, I do not feel comfortable filing a noise violation. Thank you for your help!

On September 20, 2022, I was riding my bicycle on the 10th street trail near the eastside Post Office. I saw a man on a scooter coming toward me, in the middle of the trail, riding very fast. I maneuvered to avoid him and crashed my bike, rolling onto the pavement and grass. I was hoping my hurt ankle was only a sprain, but I could not walk on it. The next day, I went to a walk-in orthopedic clinic and learned my foot was broken in 4 places. I am still recovering. Please include this instance in any records the City keeps about scooters. Although a ban on scooters is unlikely, some limits on speed and place may help reduce incidences like mine. Thank you.

Can you have the city or someone hang the BEAD banners from the lamp posts in the 600-700 blocks of West Kirkwood again?

Parking Garages

Case Date:
5/17/2023

New idea/request for City consideration: Currently all of the city's EV chargers are in paid garages, which contrains their use by city employees, county employees, dimension mill members, and local business employees that already have a paid city parking permit for downtown surface parking. MANY more people would likely use the EV chargers if they didn't have to double-pay (downtown parking pass + parking garage hourly rates) to use the chargers. Can you create a system that allows employes and patrons with downtown surface parking permits to use the available chargers without paying for their monthly/annual permit, paying for charger use, and also paying for hourly parking to get access to the garaged chargers? The current system creates a significant disincentive to use the City's daytime-generated solar power for EV charging, as numerous communters that park downtown are not by default paying for garage access (but are already effectively paying for other/surface parking spots). Thank you for the consideration! Joel

I would like to know what code or regulation at INDOT or USDOT allows barriers on the street that are high vis orange to be covered up and camouflaged? These would be the parking places in front of certain restaurants. What liability does the City haven’t allowing this to happen?

Parking on Unimproved Surface

As a patient of dental office near Mother Bears Pizza, we are not able to park in their parking lot due to Mother Bear's employees and customers parking in the lot. The office has towed cars off because people don't pay attention to the 'No Parking' or simply they don't care. Come on, be a little bit more respectful to another business. It's their parking lot....word is that they are going to put up a gate!

How long will the City allow graffiti to be over a pride flag and trans flag on a mural? People's park. You can celebrate black lives matter without saying marginalized LGBT lives don't. Time to think of a different way to honor blm. Bring back rare Midwestern recognition of lgbt people. Please. It's just plastered over like the city doesn't care.
