Please post an update on the Vernal Pike/Seventeenth Street project. Seventeenth Street was closed in April 2019 and was to be reopened in November 2019. When will the street be opened?
I was traveling east on 10th St. and got into the right-hand turn lane (with turn signal on) to turn right/south on Smith Road. As I turned right, a car facing north on Smith Road turned left to head west on 10th St. and did not see an oncoming car and the eastbound car on 10th street had to brake quickly to avoid an accident...stopping within a few feet of the turning car. With the new traffic light at the Post Office intersection on 10th st, GPS is routing more people east/west on 10th street to/from Smith Rd and more locals are also using this route. This is turning an already dangerous intersection more dangerous. Turning left off smith onto 10th street requires timing to avoid a car coming east around the curve on east 10th street...and the same for turning left onto Smith off 10th street. Please consider a stop light at this intersection. Thank You.
Three weeks ago, I was riding my bike west on 7th St in the bicycle lane as a car entered from Indiana Ave into the bike lane. I had to stop my bike and lift it over the curb to get around the car that was impeding both lanes of the bike lane. This is not my first experience with cars in the 7th St bike lane. Please install a post or bollard at the protected bicycle lane entrances to discourage cars from entering it. This is a simple, easy to install, and low cost solution. I don't understand why it wasn't installed in the first place.
Road Construction sign has been run over or blown over...supporting pole is bent and sign is laying down/wedged in with light pole and parking sign on United Commerce Bank parking lot...on 3rd street between College and Walnut. Someone here tried to right the sign but the post is bent and could not be set right. Needs to be removed/reinstalled?
The traffic on West Third Street is consistently HORRID. The timing of the traffic lights desperately needs to be changed. Especially around peak times, like morning rush, noon-ish, and 5:00pm, traffic is so backed up and the traffic lights are so poorly timed that barely two or three cars are making it through a single light. What should be a 15 minute drive to-and-from work for me (even with some normal peak traffic factored in) but it usually takes about 45 minutes. PLEASE have someone from your department attempt to drive from downtown to the West side of town via W. 3rd street so you can see first-hand how awful it is and how poorly timed the lights are. It doesn't make sense for one light to turn green if the light ahead of it is still red and the cars are completely backed up. Nobody can go anywhere! My car has overheated a few times from remaining stagnant for so long. Please have someone do something about this and PLEASE have someone from your office try it out for themselves during a peak traffic time. It is unbelievable and ridiculous and needs to be adjusted.
There is a metal post with a sign on the train tracks right at the intersection of Indiana Ave and 13th St that looks very frail. In the past wind advisory situations we have had in the city, anytime the wind hit the post, that post sounded as if the wind could dislodged it violently from the base and the sign at the top could fly off into near-by buildings, it even sounded horribly loud as the sign does not seem to be securely attached to the post. When that happened I called 9-1-1 to let them know and asked them to contact whoever is in charge of the tracks for them to look into that by securing that post. However, nothing happened. Tonight, with the tornado watch and the very strong winds we are having, it's the same situation with the post. Because of that, I called the Indiana Railroad Company's emergency number and they said they would email someone but that that would take some time and they were not sure they would get to it that night since they were also in tornado watch.
So I've talked to you guys before about this issue how you guys have the timing for the traffic lights set up and of course you know you guys basically said all their set correctly but here's the issue all over town and multiple times a day I have to travel various places in town for my job. And you guys have the signaling set up to where you come to a stop at one red light and it goes green and the very second you arrived the next stoplight doing the speed limit it turns red it's really bad on West 3rd Street but specifically the portion of town that I have to drive through half dozen times a day from Miller Street to 2nd Street you literally have to stop every single traffic light because you guys have set the traffic signaling to make you stop at the red light. Having lived a lot of different places this is something that's very unique to Bloomington you know I'm sure you're going to tell me that's the way it's supposed to be which in turn means that you just wanted to turn people from driving but it's straight bullshit on a busy road like that that northbound traffic or southbound traffic you guys have it set that way West 3rd Street you literally have people having to stop in the intersection because you guys want to play games!! Yeah it's funny because when I called the mayor's office they acknowledged that the timings were messed up but said they would defer to you people
Hello I am the office manager at Summit Urology located on McIntire Dr off of Tapp Rd and we have a few concerns 1 being that we have a Surgery Center down stairs and we are going to soon have only 1 way in or out of here. This is a concern due to if we ever need an ambulance to come to the surgery center in the event of an emergency and the road be blocked for some reason it could mean life or death for someone. Yesterday the road was blocked off for 38 min no one could get in or out of the medical park. I find this to not be a good result and need to speak to someone about our concerns.
Hello, I am re-developing the property @ 3000 South Walnut. The location is where the former Southern Winds Hotel and Roosters club were located. The property at the beginning a workout facility and a chiropractors office. AS you pull out from the property and are going to turn left (North) and cross traffic, there are two trees located to the north on the side of the road. When cars are coming South and I am turning to the North, it is difficult to see whats coming and that is where the speed limit changes from 30 to 40mph, which is the place many seems to start speeding up. We will have more traffic than ever entering and leaving the property right from the beginning and even more as the property continues to be redeveloped overtime after the initial building and business's are active. A stop light right around there of course would be superb for the property but probably could never happen due to the traffic that occur that comes over the hill when people are traveling South down South Walnut. With that in mind I was hoping the two large trees could be taken down so it is much safer at that point because of the visibility that would open up. One tree is directly in from of the property and the other is directly in front on an older apartment complex that has around 10 apartments in it, it looks like. Would this be possible? Or maybe we could plant a couple new tress which would be much smaller and take several years to grow out? Of course that problem would show up again several years from now but it would take care of it presently for sevevral years. I am just worried about such a great new area being redeveloped for the area and future to have potential traffic issues with people being able to see when pulling out of the property. Which office handles habitual speeding areas? For the five blocks of 12th Street stretching from Walnut to Indiana Avenues there are no traffic signs (speed limit, Stop, etc.) at all, so some people use it as a raceway - mostly in the evenings and much of the night. Formally it is a 25mph zone, but that is not indicated anywhere along the street. In the last year the main problems have been with Domino's Pizza delivery vehicles that fly perhaps 50 mph down the street. We have spoken directly to some drivers and with Domino's managers, but that has done nothing. What can be done to stop them from making our neighborhood a dangerous and unpleasant place to live? If a Stop sign were put in place at Lincoln and/or Grant, that would likely help.
