Sent Monday, May 21: "I have been to your office to complain about the mess at 823 w. 7th street. The front porch is covered with trash that has been accumulating for 15-20 years. The back and side yards are overgrown and contain litter and receptacles that can fill with standing water. The property is a breeding ground for mosquitos, rats, and other pests. I and several neighbors believe it poses a risk to public health. Your enforcement officer took a look, but told me that nothing was ticketable. I respectfully disagree. While the overgrown vegetation is not “turf grass”, it is a menace and eyesore. The garbage on the porch attracts human as well as animal pests. It invites others to litter and dump on the property. Although I was at your office, I was not given a complaint form to sign. Nor was I able to submit a complaint on your website. (I don’t know why unless it was my iPad) I definitely want to file an official complaint and have it kept on record. I also ask you to reconsider and help us to clean up this blight on the neighborhood. Thank you."
Ms. Young reached out to the Office of the Mayor with concerns about the property at 823 W. 17th St. Ms. Young stated that there is trash, thick vegetation and pests on the property- making it a public health hazard.
A mattress, a couple of tubs, scrap wood, recycling, a shopping cart and a makeshift bed have been dumped on a public bench in front of the Habitat Office at 213 E Kirkwood Ave.
Mayors office called and stated they received a fb message about trash behind the building of 718 S. Rogers, a pile that has been around the dumpster for almost two years and has caused a continuous problem with their trash pick up. I could not find 718 S Rogers on the GIS, please look in the area.
For the entire 12 years we have lived next door to our neighbor, Roger Reading, 2403 N. Browncliff Ln., he has left piles of trash and inoperable cars on his property. We have asked him many times to clean it up, and he occasionally has complied, only to resume using his driveway and surrounding area as his open trash can and junkyard. He fills the unused cars with trash, throws trash on the ground (sometimes right next to trash and recycling bins), animals get into it and spread it around, etc. The current tally of neglected cars is 6--one in his open garage, surrounded by garbage, and five in his driveway (part of which we share as easement to Browncliff). I was once also in his home as per his invitation to help him locate a waterline break. It is also filled with trash and is in a state of utter disrepair. The one photo you allow me to attach does not come close to doing justice to the extent of this mess. We are tired of allowing him to affect our sanitation and property values. We called your office and complained for the first time in March--not sure whether any action was taken. Please help. Daniel Reed, 2369 N. Browncliff, 812-320-9687. Thanks.
Received a call in to the HAND office reporting trash and mattress out in front of the above trailer.
Late last month I made arrangements to have the city sanitation service pick up two old dehumidifiers this morning. Unfortunately when I got up this morning to set them out, I discovered I had no garbage stickers. (I put my garbage can out only about once every three months so I hadn't noticed). I deeply regret having made this mistake, and hope you will forgive me. I will call the sanitation office to reschedule a pickup in August or September. Thank you.
