Blocked Street

Case Date:
10/12/2022

On the west side of N. Williams St. between 8th and 9th Sts., the yard is so overgrown that it blocks half the width of the street, making it difficult to navigate when other cars are approaching during most of the year and impossible to navigate when snow plowing further narrows the passage.

Smartphone use while driving is a huge problem in Bloomington. Almost every time I get on the road as a driver or cyclist, I see people staring at their phones while driving. Why aren't cops patroling the streets for this? It's a huge contributor to traffic accidents, and it makes me scared to ride my bike. People do it while they're stopped at stoplights or even stop signs, which is dangerous enough, but I see it all the time while people are driving! The tell-tale signs are swerving, driving very slowly, and obviously seeing someone's head pointed down toward their lap. The police should be focused on eradicating this habit before an innocent pedestrian or someone else dies.

Street & Traffic Signs

This sign is posted at a four way stop. Cross traffic (on Grant) does stop at this intersection, which makes this sign is both confusing and misleading.

This is the Dunkin Donut drive through on east third street Sunday10/16/2023. Something needs to be done about these problems. When IU students quit coming here because of this all over town maybe you will do something. This is disgusting. Only in Bloomington. It’s gotten totally out of hand.

Jefferson Wilson is a boarder at the Monroe Co Saddle Club. We have caught him on surveillance video more than once beating his horses by hand and with a whip. He is riding one of his horses with an injured foot and leg that isn’t supposed to be rode. He is currently also hurting other members horses in the barn by hitting them with whips. He has been notified more than once to stop and has been confronted. We are worried about the safety and health of his horses. I’m not a member of the board and I’ve brought it up to their attention as well. There isn’t much I can do besides notify you guys and the board. He is hurting them.

Bloomington Police Department Incident Reporting https://bloomington.in.gov/incidents/incidentEdit/9344 I worked on a victim report since 2022-10-17 about 3pm until 2022-10-18 about 2am. I encountered one crazy bug after another. I asked for help, and did get an alternate link way to file from Officer Wells, so I'll have to use it. The last straw was when entering the victim info, the software kept erasing the required birthdate, and there was a blank pink error message. Since no one could use software which does that, the problem must be that I have an old computer with Windows XP. (But, but, browser upgrades are free! Hm, for some reason no one will buy me a new computer on which to put those free browsers.)

I understand State intersections but please work with State to provide better intersection support at N. Smith and 10th and N. Smith and 3rd. Both are confusing/dangerous at present as people whip around others out of line when impatient on left turners, since there is no left turn lane, etc. Vision gets obstructed and otherwise is a safety concern.

Power in Park Ridge East is frequently out. Neighbors and the Association have flagged this unsuccessfully as an issue with Duke. Outages often take time for restoration beyond what would be expected. Basic power in neighborhoods should be a staple of good governance. I understand both the State and Duke are primary contacts for this, but can municipal governance please help flag this to Duke as a concern. Our household lost power yesterday and then again today (still out). Power reliability here has been less than anywhere I have lived, including internationally. Sentiment is similar among many other residents. As a sample from another resident's posted concerns yesterday: "I thought Duke did a lousy job of tree trimming this yea, and I'm beginning to think that was a correct observation. AC power in Park Ridge East is the least reliable of any place I've lived in the US and compares unfavorably to Ankara, Turkey, where I lived in the 1960s." Another poster from yesterday: "Agreed, power outages in PRE are a regular occurrence." I also had to contact Duke to correct dangerous power fluctuations in their line this year near my home, which was corrected after being flagged as a major fire hazard by my electronic monitoring company. Your advocacy for improvements would be appreciated and expected. Thank you.
