Traffic Signals

The east-west signal at Covenanter and College Mall Rd remains a persistent problem for cyclists. The signal seems to be triggered at best by a motor vehicle presence, meaning a cyclist approaching the intersection with no car nearby has no way to get a green light except by pressing a pedestrian beg button that is not accessible from the road. This is a recurrent problem that keeps getting marked “closed” but without real evidence that the matter has been addressed successfully for east-west transportation at this intersection. See these past comparable complaints:
11/12/2025 #206750 (when the signal was not even responding to a car)

According to John Garzee’s response to Ureport #210034, “Cyclists traveling east-west are not being detected at the signal, so they have to use the pedestrian push button to get a green. The current equipment does not reliably detect bikes, and fixing this would require upgrading the detection system. We’ve noted the location, but until funding is available for that upgrade, the signal will not consistently turn green for people biking.”
In light of this situation, are there resources available to make the pedestrian beg button accessible to cyclists? It is currently impossible for a cyclist to press the button without getting off the bike and walking to the sidewalk.

When waiting at the light to cross College Mall on Covenanter coming from the west, the light will not change if you are a cyclist waiting at the intersection and no car is behind you. This has been the case for years. My only solution has been to go through the red light after cars are done turning and hope for the best. This is a greenway route, so I hope this can be improved as soon as possible.

Dangerous amount of sand, gravel, and debris in the road. Covenanter & College Mall Road, on the West side of the intersection as Covenanter enters College Mall Road. This is a really dangerous section on a city bicycle route. Please clean this up.

We have no water. I know the city has been working on a break. The water advisory for our area has been lifted. Yet, we still have no water.

The trees between the houses on the street side of the sidewalk on rock creek in my neighborhood are super overgrown and low hanging. I’ve noticed some kids and elderly getting hit in the face with branches and having to duck. The city in the past has trimmed these low hanging branches but it was never done last year. Any chance we could get the low hanging branches on rock creek cut? It would make it a lot safer for our neighborhood kids who walk to school (and adults). To be clear, I’m talking about the city trees not residential trees. Thanks!
