This traffic light's lack of a green left turn arrow is a safety issue that, if not fixed, will continue to cause drivers problems and accidents. On Thursday, September 26, 2024, another driver and I were involved in an accident in which my car and the other driver's car were totaled. I was turning left onto Dunn Street when the next thing I knew, I was t-boned (pictured above). If someone had been in my passenger's side they most certainly would have been seriously hurt or dead as the entire passenger's side of my car had been imploded and my passenger's side mirror had flown from the passenger's window into the driver's backseat. While the result of the accident was a lack of yielding, this does not undermine the danger of this light as I am positive, I was, or have not been, the only one in this situation at this light! If a green arrow had been programmed into this light, this accident, and many others (I’m sure) would never have occurred. A small change can make all of the difference. This light is the only light on the E Indiana 45 bypass without a turn arrow and with its location being so close to the stadium, a hotspot for students, residents, and football spectators! it is full of traffic going in and out of campus, apartments, residents, game day traffic…! Having an arrow would make everyone safer and decrease the number of accidents in this area. Please put a traffic arrow at this location and help prevent further accidents.
There was an auto accident a couple of hours ago and all of the debris is still in the intersection causing drivers to unsafely navigate the intersection from multiple directions.
Needs a left turn light bad. Constant traffic both ways so making a left is impossible, only 1 car, or 2 if people ran it late can make it through every light cycle
Cars turning right onto the bypass from Dunn Street rarely if ever look to the right to see if a pedestrian is crossing. Please make this intersection "No Turn On Red" and also add a pedestrian delay so the intersection can be safely crossed.
I live in Blue Ridge on the north side of town and cross the Dunn/45-46 intersection daily to get to work. This intersection not only has high traffic due to daily Bloomington traffic, but also has high traffic with visitors for game days and other IU events. This intersection needs to be reworked to help with traffic flow and safety. (1) Driving south through the intersection on Dunn there is only a green light (no green arrow or yellow yield arrow like other traffic signs around town.) People frequently turn left immediately on green without yielding, causing several near accidents (happened to me twice just this week.) (2) Going northbound on Dunn -- there are 3 lanes - 1 to turn left, 1 to go straight onto North Dunn, and 1 to turn right. Although there is a sign that says turn left, almost daily people are turning left from the "straight traffic" lane, again causing issues with traffic and safety. I believe there needs to be a sign that says "straight ahead only" -- similar to the signs on South Walnut near Kroger/Seminary Square. As someone who drives this intersection daily, I am always prepared for someone to incorrectly cross through these intersections, but for 90% of people who do not, especially people going to/from IU on visits and other events and/or are from out of town, this is extremely unsafe.
